just got a membership. Its a little overwhelming. Can yall let me know your best purchses from there? Healthy buys appreciated!

the best one I found so far are the Kirklands brand of the Starbucks Sous Vide egg bites. They are incredible for a breakfast on the go.

I got a great deal on a Beast blender there about a year ago. Not sure if other stores offer a similar deal.

They also have a sous vide grass fed beef sirloin that is very good. The only place I've seen a similar product is Trader Joe's (and their portion is smaller). I'm high-protein, so having that pre-cooked is very handy in a pinch.

The Zwilling hand-held vacuum sealer and the accompanying bags/containers is fantastic for storing fruit. It keeps berries fresh and prevents molding for SO much longer.

I did not get mine at Costco, but I think they have a great starter kit.

If you eat canned tuna, I find the Kirkland albacore tuna to be very good. It's better quality than any canned tuna I've had. I also like the Kirkland natural peanut butter. Those are among my regular purchases that I think are reasonably healthy.

The prime grade steaks (filet or strip) are a good deal compared to Central Market/Whole foods prices. The Kirkland rack of lamb chops is also very good.

One of my kids eats a grain/lactose/starch/soy/emulsifier-free diet for IBD, so I buy several things at Costco on a regular basis.

Canned tuna
Canned salmon
Frozen fruit (mango, strawberry, mixed berry, cherry)
Jones Dairy Farm no sugar chicken sausage (frozen, fully cooked)
Chomps sticks
Archer Farms meat sticks
Honey
Spindrift when they have it
Kirkland guacamole packets
Grillo's pickles (no polysorbate, sugar, flavors or colors)
That's It fruit bars
Fresh fruit - when they have stone fruit, it's the best
Dried figs
Dried mango

Other people in my household eat:
Siete tortilla chips (grain-free)
Kettle potato chips (no soy or corn oil)
2 pack of Canyon Bakehouse gluten free bread
Black Forest gummy bears

I get those often as well, the one with brownie and chocolate chip is solid. My only issue is they are very inconsistent in flavor. Every box seems to taste different from the previous.

A Costco moved in less than a mile from my house a couple years ago. We have our Costco runs down to a science.
It's easy to get distracted by all they offer, even the "healthy" stuff adds up quickly. I have a house full of boys for kids and learned real quick that stuff is devoured quickly and never felt like it was super worth it.

If I'm on my game in terms of good healthy decisions and value buys at Costco it really boils down to a couple things.

1. Get a vacuum sealer. Buying meat in bulk is key. Getting it separated and stored is a must and easy to do with a vacuum sealer

2. Buy your protein (meat) in bulk. Every time I go I'm buying ground beef, steaks, chicken and turkey of some type. Then if needed, mostly on the beef, I use my sealer and separate out the bulk packaging into smaller units. I know about how many pounds it takes to feed my family so I separate it into that amount. Then I just freeze it until I need it.

2. Fruits. There are 3 or 4 fruits my kids eat well. I buy a lot. We go through most of it. At times we waste it but u still think it's worth it.

3. Eggs. I eat eggs most every morning. I stock up every time I go.

4. Household needs. Paper towels, toilet paper, bottled water etc.

After this, a few of those "healthy" snacks always make it in my cart. Chomps beef sticks, some mediocre protein bar does seem to be the latest trend. I mostly do this to keep the peace. The are gone quickly so like i said, never feel like I get my moneys worth.

Hot Dog after checkout.

Bring your own tote bags

Agree with the tuna. Also coffee.

As said, be careful. We go for a few things and $800 later we are out of there

Please don't follow anything that guy says. He's constantly flip flopping on what he says and is wildly inconsistent. It's garbage advice and he has no clue what he's talking about.

Good to know. Someone recently sent me that video and I thought a few of the things he listed looked like good healthy options, but I'm certainly not aware of him or anything he's said in the past.

Recently I grabbed a box of these but won't buy another because they're too delicious. They taste like a chocolate-covered marshmellow. Buyer beware if you see this box at Costco.

Have you looked into the app called Bobby Approved? He also has YouTube's on his day at Costco. Helps me stay away from items that pretend to be healthy.

My Bf found that app…it's terrible. That guy has no background in nutrition, or any type of science that would make him remotely qualified to identify what is healthy or not.

Among other ingredients, his app flags things that contain dairy (which is not unhealthy) and even questions plain Greek yogurt.

He criticizes foods that don't explicitly say "non-GMO" when a GMO version doesn't even exist.

He's the male version of Food Babe, and she's awful, too.

Lmao you're funny!

Just because something has dairy in it, it's healthy? If you see dairy on the label and automatically think it's healthy. I don't know what to tell you young lady. To each their own. Watch his video and he explains his reasoning and what goes into the app.

"His app flags things that contain dairy". Her quote.
And he doesn't bash Greek yogurt, he points out alternative yogurts that don't contain as much sugar or contain inflammatory oils.

Edit: I don't have a vested interest in that guy. But his app or approach can not be dismissed as gibberish.

Your reading comprehension is terrible.

He flags things as being unhealthy simply because they contain dairy. There is nothing inherently unhealthy about dairy. There is no reason to demonize it.

And I specifically said PLAIN Greek yogurt. Plain as in no added sugars (or oils, although, I've never seen oil as an ingredient in any yogurt I buy). His app flags Greek yogurt and implies it's not "safe" or "healthy".

That app is for the most part fear-mongering pseudo-science. Mostly because there is no such thing as an "unsafe" or "unhealthy" food. Some foods are healthier than others, but most anything at the grocery can be part of a healthy diet, even "junk" food, if consumed in moderation.

Try the YUKA app instead of Bobby, I prefer it.

The New Zealand butter is da bomb!

I also get the grilled chicken chunks that come in individual packets. Toss those over a salad with some homemade dressing and that is my daily lunch.

Bobby app is good for sugar and gmo content.

His ads have taught me the unhealthy stuff to be on the lookout for.

Now I can figure it out for my self.

We do enjoy Costco.

Great thread topic. Hopefully the thread gets back on track.

I'll add Catalina Crunch Cereal to the list. The macros are awesome. Great after gym snack - 65 grams and 1/2 cup 2% mootopia = 30g carbs/27g protein/265kcal.

The Kevin's Korean beef bbq meal (also sous vide) is also good. Costco is the only place I've seen this specific flavor/protein combo.

However you can buy all of the Kevin's sauces (without the protein) on Amazon and other sites and cook it with any protein yourself. The bbq sauce is very good with ground beef. I like the Thai coconut sauce, too.

The Bobby app is very helpful. It keeps you on track as far as healthy is concerned and it will keep you from buying junk that you don't need. Sure he might not be right on everything but it is start in the right direction. It has changed our eating and shopping habits.
The best thing we do to not "over buy"- don't use a cart. If you can't carry it you can't buy it.
