Hoping someone else has experienced my problem and can fix me!
I run six days a week and have for years. Generally 30-35 miles per week. I have been loosely following Hal's plan for me for the Seaside Half 2/15/26. I say loosely because a) sleet week and b) conference in Vegas last week (not a great place to run in the pre-dawn hours alone). Got home last Thursday night and ran 4 Friday then 9 Saturday. Had not checked my plan with Hal (mostly because I don't like his disappointing comments) and I was supposed to run 12 Saturday. So I took Sunday off then ran my 12 Monday morning.
After my 12 miler, my middle toes felt like they were broken, though they did not bother me at all while running. So painful! They look kind of bruised. And swollen. And the nails on my middle toes look white. They are not my longest toes - my second toes are longer than my big toe, and they are sore sometimes, but I have never, ever had any issue whatsoever with my middle toes. I usually run 7-10 miles on Saturdays, so 12 was not really much of a stretch. The pain woke me up several times Monday night.
I ran yesterday (Tuesday) - just five miles - and probably made the situation worse. I did take off today. Am thinking maybe I take off until the race?
I have been running in the same series of Hokas for a couple of years now. My current pair is fairly new - probably less than 200 miles. I do sometimes clench when I am running if my laces have loosened - I have been super conscientious about having my shoes properly tied up lately so I do not believe that was a problem. I think it must be mechanical, right? Since same toes on both feet?
HELP!
