I just started perusing this board so I apologize if this has been asked or discussed before. What historical event or time period do you think should be depicted in a movie or a TV show/series that hasn't?

My vote would be the Rangers taking Pointe Du Hoc on D-Day. It seems like there is more than enough story to tell that would make for an entertaining show.

I feel like there's been a ton of World War II material. I'd love to see a series on something like King Philip's War from start to end. Won't happen. The politics are too difficult to translate to our era without pissing off one side or the other.

More plausible, a series following one regiment in the Civil War would be fascinating. Something like the 2nd Massachusetts, where Robert Gould Shaw was a Captain, which saw action at Antietam and Gettysburg before going west and participating in the March to the Sea.

Would love to see stuff about the English Civil War(s). Or movies about the English and French when they were constantly going at it. Or the defeat of the Spanish Armada. All fascinating to me
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

What story could you tell like flag of our fathers and letters from iwo jima did.

Two movies with each sides story. I know some didn't like them, but i really liked both movies.

Was recently reading up and also listening (via the Revolutions podcast) about the activity on Lake Champlain and that area of the country during the Revolution. Interesting skirmishes and events that I do not believe I have seen on the screen.

Give me a miniseries or multiple movies about the life of Ulysses S Grant.

  • The Mexican American war.
  • Depression on the PNW frontier.
  • Absolute poverty, yet still freeing a slave that was given to him.
  • Then the outbreak of civil war and his rise through the ranks to accepting Lee's surrender at Appomattox.
  • Reconstruction as the man in charge of the army, and then as president. Destroying the first Klan.
  • Then a sad end, dying of throat cancer impoverished, but leaving a memoir that mark Twain help turned into a fortune for his surviving family.
Thanks and gig'em

Ahhhh.... No he wasn't.

Invited, but declined because Julia Grant could not stand Mary Lincoln after her emotional outbursts while visiting City Point during the late stages of the Petersburg Campaign. He was on his way to New York City that night.

How about a mini-series on the 43rd Battalion of Virginia Cavalry, Mosby's Rangers. End it with Mosby becoming a Republican and making Hollywood Movies in the 1910s (true fact, maybe it needs to be on the mind blowing thread).

I'd love to see a miniseries where each episode is about a different Medal of Honor recipient and their actions that lead to earning it.

Two would be cheaper to make, one would be a cast of thousands and you'd need a big name to play Kit.

Any chapter from "Blood and Thunder: The Epic Story of Kit Carson and the Conquest of the American West." Heck, just make a whole miniseries. A miniseries on the life of Captain Jack C. Hayes would be awesome too.

Got a few to consider, maybe these do exist and I'm just not aware.

-What about a series related to some of the early European groups who sought to distance themselves from Rome? Examples would be the Hussites, Waldensians, and Cathars. You would have a mix of religion, politics, warfare, and I'm sure a love story between a Catholic and one of the others would be thrown in. Should be enough to fill in a 8-10 part series.

-A movie about Sir Kenneth Strong - This could cover so many of the main events of WW2 as he was in Germany before the war, involved with the secret negotiations to have Italy flip sides, and was G-2 for Ike.

-What about a series about the Russian Occupation of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina in 1940? You have the hard decisions the Romanians faced on whether to accept the Russian ultimatum. You have the massacres of priests and students. The forced abdication of the King and alignment with Germany due to this.

-What about a series related to the Western Schism? Lots of drama and politics. Competing powers. European drama between houses.

I suggest everyone to watch "Righteous Gemstones" season 4 episode 1

this series is a modern black comedy but Episode 1 Season 4 was a origin story based in the Civil War.

it was EXCELLENT

but that's because I am writing a book on the Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley.

they did a good job with the reenactors and always Bradley Cooper is a great actor.

there were no Gatling machine guns used in the Civil War except in the trenches of Petersburg (due to the size and complexity and the waste of ammunition which was in short supply)

and the Union would not have shot prisoners of war who were regular Confederate soldiers wearing uniforms and in organized units (they would shoot Mosby's Rangers who were guerilla units)

Mosby's men were in the regular army, wore uniforms, organized by companies and took orders from Lee and Stuart. Just because they operated in the Union rear did not justify their execution by Wesley Merritt.

There's something like that on Netflix. It's called Medal of Honor. It has 8 episodes all dealing with a particular MOH recipient and their story

It might be interesting to see a movie or TV series made that accurately portrayed Cavalry and Indian battles and life in frontier forts. I'm pretty sure most Texas forts weren't log stockades, and most Indian battles were small clashes, not huge battles with Indians in full war paint and soldiers in dress uniforms.

Reality might be too boring for TV, though

I was thinking about that the other day while watching such a show with a running battle on horseback. If they portrayed it historically animal lovers would be offended. Movies always seem to depict the riders being shot off their mounts. Reality was, the soldiers and Indians tended to shoot at the horse versus the man. A much easier target and when dismounted the rider could no longer flee or pursue.

I've always thought that Harald Hardrada's life would be a smash hit - The Last Viking.

Something set in the Roman civil war between Sulla and Marius could be fun too.
