Do you realize how much of a t-sip you sound like? "Why would this recruit go to A&M, OU, or LSU... we're Texas!"
This is the NFL! Well, this is the real-world and we are a nation at war... Campbell sounds like he is being a MAN about and will serve his obligations, not the fans' whims.
I'm guessing that would make you a #1 type Aggie then. This is a completely different situation, and frankly your calling me a sip is a pretty lame response.
This kid was told that if he became a pro-athlete, he could play. No beef from the military.
There have been a couple others go straight into the pro's because of this rule. No beef from the Military.
This kid was allowed to work out with pro scouts and attend the combine. No beef from the Military.
This guy was allowed to enter and become drafted. No beef from the military.
That is until they decide to turn a 180 on him and knife him in the back. If you want to talk about obligations and honor, it isn't him skimping on the oaths here. He is doing what he is told, it's the higher ups that are jerking him around.
If he had been told otherwise I wouldn't have an issue with it, but in the end, he was lied to. If the DoD had a problem with the army's policy, they should have never let them enact it, or make it null and void after this.
And don't even try to compare the Service Academy guys in the NFL to our guys. We've got 28 currently on an NFL roster. All of them combined have got 3.

Surely you are not implying that he could not play in today's NFL? He's one of the greatest to ever play the game, and he played it before the league was watered down by expansion.
I'm a cowboy fan, and I'm going to have to say, maybe, but the chances aren't great. He would be in an uphill battle to even get a shot in camp, since rosters are small, and very few teams are going to take a shot on a qb who hasn't played serious ball in 5 years. But as you said, he is "one of the greatest ever". He won the Heisman. If the fact that he was a HEISMAN winner at a SERVICE ACADEMY doesn't prove to you that the game has changed since then, well then I don't know what to tell you.
On a related note, Babe Ruth is considered the greatest baseball player of all time. If he lived today, he would be selling hot dogs in the stands. Sports have changed a lot in recent years.
just saying.
