It seemed pretty obvious with the whistle restarting the clock more than even seeing the snap that they didn't get it off.

Yes. Did LSU have any timeouts left? I don't know.

They were out of timeouts

Kind of expecting that to happen. If there's a way to lose, we'll find it.

Fire Miles and screw Auburn. They've always been dirty.
Sorry, that was a crap fest on offense by both teams, though.

Yeah. The game was awful entertainment wise. Can't even imagine how boring it was for you as a neutral. It was boring for me. Just two pitifully-coached teams. Both coaches will be gone soon.

Wiki says there has been a 10 sec rule since 2011.

Missing the runoff call is inexcusable. None of those officials should ever work another SEC game if they missed that call.

Runoff doesn't apply to every single penalty though. What was the flag for?

The refs weren't even set. They should have been set, blew the whistle, then started the clock. But regardless I'm pretty sure the QB was over the LOS when he threw it.

Motion penalty with running clock at 7 seconds. Receiver never got set lining up.

Seven, I'm not talking about the last play. The last play should have never happened.

The wide receiver was in motion. But I think the penalty they called was illegal formation.

Well that would be a runoff - how did the clock get from :07 to :01 if the flag was at :07?

It definitely looked weird when I saw it live, so I expected it to be called back, and it was.

Just laughed. What else can you do?

To get a 10-sec runoff, the penalty must be one to cause the clock to stop and inside 1 min left in a half.

LSU snapped at ~:07 and gained a first down causing the clock to stop at :01. Since the offensive penalty didn't cause the clock stoppage - the first down did, there is no time run off. The clock restarts when the refs get the ball set.

I believe it is Rule 3-4-4

Thanks for the clear explanation. But wouldn't illegal motion be a clock stopper?

I'm just a fan trying to understand, not arguing

So it's a loophole. They got a huge advantage with the penalty.

They called illegal shift - mostly likely not everyone was set.

This is a better definition than I can give.

quote:
An illegal shift can be called when any of these happen: a player is not in motion but is not set before the snap of the ball; more than one player is in motion at the snap; after more than one player was moving (shifting), all 11 players have not been motionless for one second. This penalty is commonly called in the two-minute drill, when the team is trying to move the ball quickly and does not take time to set before the ball is snapped.

Here is a explanation between illegal motion vs illegal shift.

Oh I see, and that's something that can't be called until the ball is snapped. TIL 30+ years of watching football and I still don't know all the rules.

Even if you know the rules, they keep adding to them or modifying them. Also confusing as they are not the same across all levels.
