Basically everything was donated. My assignment was to get the money needed to buy the 100 ice cream scoopers. I did not have a car so walked all along University blvd to the businesses trying to get donations. A bank along Northgate wound up donating money and Scaggs Albertson ordered the scoopers needed and sold them to me at cost. The Alpha Phi Omega group spent the week to two before pre scooping the ice cream that Blue Bell donated so they could be frozen solid before the morning we started assembling the banana split. I still have two of the metal ice cream scoopers we used. If I remember correctly the nuts were donated by Baskin Robbins.
It was supposed to be a big charity fundraiser and we all had to sell tickets. As you can see by the crowd not many tickets were purchased for the all you could eat event. I don't remember how much the ticket were. The only reason APO was allowed to do it on the field was because the astroturf was going to be replaced that summer. Good thing too because there was ice cream, nuts, chocolate syrup and banana smashed and imbedded in the turf. To assemble there were pickup trucks with APO members sitting on the tailgates passing out the ice cream and bananas, then more to pour the chocolate syrup and nuts over the top. By the time assembly was finished and recorded by Guiness it was completely melted so people basically drank them. The project took months to plan and execute by APO. I also still have the t-shirt that APO made for the event for us to wear as well as more up close photos of the event and on the nights we pre-scooped the ice cream.
