I wonder if with some quirk of fate, what if A&M had hired Cignetti?

Would have have turned around our program and brought us an NC? Or would we be somewhere we are today, more or less?

We would have ruined him.

And he would have gone from "I win. Google me" to questioning his ability "Why can't I win here?" and then, with his confidence shattered, fade into obscurity coaching lesser teams to below average seasons until finally retiring and volunteering with local high school kids while continuing to collect a hefty check from us.

Gotta give credit to that Indiana AD for seeing what most ADs sorely overlooked!

The reason it worked at IU is because
CC also brought most of the JMU football team with him which was certainly better than the IU roster and good enough to be competitive year one in B1G
Hey struggled against the better teams and got smoked by ND in the playoffs but he did well enough to become a place where top tier portal prospects wanted to consider

Tip of the hat for making the most of the opportunity in year one and keeping the momentum in year 2.

Don't think it would have worked as well at A&M The nucleus of JMU guys he brought with him might have made A&M better I don't think We win 10+ games and make the playoffs.
CC making the playoffs is the reason guys like FM and the center from ND even considered the Hoosiers

Exactly. It was a perfect storm for him at IU. I'm curious to see how he does over the next 3-5 years.

He definitely seems to be a legit coach with potential for more success

Sellers, Nussmayer, Lagway just to name a few SEC QBs that were supposed to be elite going into last season
