I'm old school, let's start with that.

I was against firing RC, and I'd love to make him Head Coach Emeritus today. I was adamantly against hiring Fran and reluctantly pro-Sherman. I was not excited, rather indifferent, about Sumlin. I was anti-Jimbo, and tried my hardest to buy in during his tenure.

The truth is, Texas A&M has no business having an offensive coach at the helm. We are returning to what we've always been. Elko is our guy.

Slocum failed to win at the end. If you supported keeping him your expectations were too low. But yeah of the Four Horsemen of the Aggie Apocalyse. All in hindsight obvious mistakes.

Maybe you are right. That said, I'm not the slightest bit ashamed of supporting that man. He loved our school and he's a good man.

Maybe if the BMAs had actually listened to RC when it came to staff pay, recruiting budget, and facility upgrades he could have kept pace?

Not sure why so many here always ignore that we did not get truly serious about matching the major blue bloods w/facilities, recruiting, and overall budget until well after RC was done coaching. It took until Sherman was here for them to realize how far behind we were on all those things.

So, you're in for going 3-8 in Bowl games.

I'm mean, who doesn't love 5yd out passes to the TE when it is 3rd and 8+.

He feasted on a weak SWC and OOC schedule and got exposed when we played anyone with a decent team.

He doesn't pretend to be something he was not. Like a "doctor" of podiatry, for example.

That's an odd comment, but I'm good. I did use the "winky face" but apparently hit a nerve. This podiatrist has never cheated on his wife with his secretary. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

I post about once every few years because, unlike most large groups of Aggies, the zoo is full of cannibals. Apologies to you.

Slocum had 18 starters plus Lechler return from the 1998 Big 12 Championship team and were preseason ranked Top 5 in 1999. During that 1999 season OU, Neb, Penn State beat us by a combined 112-6.

I'm curious. What is your definition of a coach being an unmitigated failure?

Let me ask…. What would have happened during the Fran years had RC remained the HC?

I also wanted rc fired years earlier. The fran hiring seemed really weird. He left Alabama to go to A&M which was weird as hell. Turns out he was a total fraud.

The fact that Fran's assistants reluctantly followed him only because they had no future at Alabama after they hired a new staff, was the first sign that not all was as it should be.

I see you have been sold on the line that RC put out there, but our facilities had nothing to do with high-school coaches refusing to meet with him or recommend their players go to A&M. The real reason recruiting fell off the map cannot be discussed on this site without being deleted.

Highest winning percentage coach we have ever had. Plus he brought integrity into our program after the Sherrill mess….. something that few coaches could have done that well. Great man and great coach for us.

The game may not be the same as it was in the 90s with the Wrecking Crew and smash mouth football being triumphant. I do like the Kirby Smart starter pack with Elko but we need to not lose sight that as Olin said, "you cannot win the SEC without a high level elite QB"

Enlighten us. What was the real reason recruiting fell off after the later RC years, post-probation?

The guy came in here to express his excitement for our program and explained why.

Why in the hell does this deserve having people attack him?

I was for firing RC because I was not aware of all the reasons that we weren't recruiting and winning more than we were. Once I had an understanding of all of our issues that started with our AD, all the way down to our facilities; I had a different view.

He was not recognized by many for how good of a coach that he was, but he had accomplishments in the same SWC that Darell Royal was celebrated for winning in.

As far as trying to go after RC's character, that's just obscene and petty. We have all had mistakes in our lives, and I'm sure as hell glad that I am not judged by my worst choices. You don't know why happened in his marriage, and its not our place to condemn the man for transgressions.

To this day, RC still loves A&M and still wants the best for the university.

I'm not going to plead for civility here, but a little common decency between Alums would be greatly appreciated and respected.

Let's cut to the chase on the Zoo's opinion:

None of them won a natty so they all sucked and are horrible human beings.

We deserve, nay, are entitled to, a natty.
