Elko needs to be bold and let Klein go after this season. This is not the Big 12. If Klein stays 2 more seasons Elko's seat will heat up.
I do find myself wondering about Klein. He's had his highs and lows for sure. My fear is that his offense, even when executed well, is not one that would allow a program to consistently compete for championships.
In this era of college football, sometimes you just have to be able to throw the ball and go get points. You don't have to be an Ole Miss or Hendon Hooker Tennessee offense running 5 plays a minute, but you gotta be able to consistently put the ball in the air with success. Sure, we have seen inconsistent QB play and deficiency with our WR group, but I just don't know if Klein's offense is designed to do that anyway. I struggle with the idea that we are just going to try and hang our hat on ball control and good defense. That's part of what got us in a bind against SC and why we find ourselves in so many first half holes.
On the other hand, we are near the top of the conference in scoring in conference games, so I'll take that.
This is an eleventh hour, portal grab, team (50% anyway). Awesome job there, btw! But we haven't seen a Klein Offense, nor an Elko Defense yet. Our coaches are working with what we have. Two of those 4th down misses would've gone for long runs, if not for bad execution by one guard (24 transfer). Will
Nelson McGuire,
Jonte Newman,
Marcus Garcia,
Connor Carty,
Tyler Thomas change that (2025 OL Recruits)? How about
Lamont Rogers (5* OT)? Klein has been recruiting well, including future QB's. I'm going to wait until our coaching staff has at least one recruiting class before worrying about the future. Actually I'm enthusiastic about the future.
As for what Klein is going to do in the near future (Nov)? Call a friend?
How about QB, Nic Scourton, on 4th & 1?
