Our beloved Aggies were in Tacoma, Washington playing the Washington state Cougars in a game dubbed the Evergreen Bowl. The game was not a home game for Washington state as the school is a short 20 hours from Tacoma by train. The game was sold out weeks early and bleachers and stands were brought in from Pullman Washington.

Starting at 1:30 pm with more than 32000 tickets sold the Aggies fought it out over the four quarters in a sandy and broken seashell covered field to a victorious score of 7-0.

A couple of hours after the game concluded the Aggies boarded a train back to college station. The trip was to last for four days starting on Saturday and arriving on Tuesday morning early in the morning. The train travel length wasn't worrisome to the Aggies as they had travelled to and from New York City to play NYU just a couple of weeks earlier. What was different about this long trip was the news that spread like wildfire throughout the cabins of the train the next morning on December 7th. Pearl Harbor had been attacked.

A few weeks later the 1941 football team played Alabama in the 1942 cotton bowl. Some of the students withdrew from school and went immediately into the military. All members of the 1941 football team eventually went into the armed services. Some made it back to Texas A&M to finish their degree years later. Some unfortunately didn't make it back.

I collect ticket stubs and love the history behind them. Here is the ticket stub from the game.

Stadium and high school today

Great shots of the stadium and high school in this clip from the Movie "10 things I hate about you" you can see the stone cut bleachers haven't changed at all and the high school looks awesome above the stadium

Dec 7, 1941 certainly changed the plans of so many young men at the time. But it also changed the history of Texas A&M football. We just didn't know how in 1941.

Bear Bryant was born and raised in Moro Bottom , Arkansas. He played his college ball at Alabama, then bounced around as an Assistant in the late 1930s., In 1940, he was an Assistant at Vanderbilt. Like every Coach, he was hoping to become a Head Coach, it was just a matter of time. In late 1941, it looked like his time had arrived. And not just any job...the job he coveted the most. The place he might have stayed the rest of his career. The HC job of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas told him he was their guy. All he had to do was show up and go through the formality of an interview.

His interview was scheduled for Monday, December 8, 1941.

Never really thought about it before, but with how World War II change the entire country and world, Texas A&M was changed as well.

Prior to World War II, Texas A&M and most land grand colleges for that matter, play a significant role in educating and training students in the country.

Post World War II everything changed and you're larger liberal arts colleges became preeminent, and land grant colleges fell out of fashion.

If World War II would've never happened, would we have continued to beat up on tu and been the top dog in the state forever?

That was one fast ass train back then to go from Pullman to Tacoma in 2 hours! Wish we still had that bullet train

Almost everyone gets it wrong so it's no biggie but as a history nerd I have to point out that it's "a date which will live in infamy."

Stadium was my oldest daughters assigned high school. She attended a charter school but we had a ton of events at Stadium. It had an interesting history - started as a home but never occupied. Converted to a hotel and then to the school. Very nice interior but kinda odd the way stairs and halls were laid out.

That stadium was bad ass but closed because of drainage issues most of the time we were there. There's a parking lot just above it that had absolutely spectacular sound views. Funny for a parking lot.

It always amazes me how history can turn on a dime. One year playing football, the next you are fighting halfway around the world. Imagine the entire football team leaving for a war. It's surreal

One of the coolest high schools I have seen ever- I would turn this area here into an awesome tailgating/premier seating area, television - big screen, etc. and charge a bunch
