I love Aggie Football and always will. I'm not going to get myself worked up anymore for approaching seasons. If they win, awesome, thumbs up and Gig Em. However, the pessimist in me knows, games will be lost that shouldn't be lost in inexplicable ways. I honestly don't know how I would act if they team decided too actually play with heart and emotion like teams of the past have. The old saying, "I've never seen em quit", just isn't true anymore. NIL and the transfer portal have ruined College Football for me, with Baseball and Men's Basketball getting there for the same reasons. A National Championship in this day and age just doesn't mean the same anymore. Teams are nothing but hired mercenaries now, they follow the almighty dollar and the bandwagon. The "student athletes" no longer care or dream about attending or playing for the school they grew up wanting to be a part of.

I am and will always be a fan of Aggie Sports and will continue to attend, cheer and watch every game I can. I'm just no longer going to live and die by what 18 to 22 year-olds accomplish on a field, court or diamond. I am almost 50 and have been a fan since I was 8. 42 years of waiting until next year has taken its toll.

8-4. Enough to keep the stands and coffers filled. A&M sells hope but not too much hope. If we win more than 8 games, fans might start getting the wrong idea.
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

What CAN A&M football be? I say look no further than LSU or Florida. Prior to Nick Saban, what had LSU really done that was any more impressive than what A&M has done? They had 1 claimed national title, 1957 I think, not sure if they had other unclaimed titles like the 2 that A&M has. Before Steve Spurrier, Florida was mostly irrelevant. I mean, not even worth talking about. If I recall right, they had not won an outright SEC title ever, and I am pretty sure they are an original SEC member. That sounds Vandy bad.

All time wins - LSU has 815, A&M has 786, Florida has 766. Seems pretty comparable overall. Yeah, LSU has added a few national titles, and once Florida figured out how to actually win the SEC, they have also won some national titles. All of that success came after they hired the right coach, Saban for LSU and Spurrier for Florida. LSU added titles under the grass eater and the Cajun cookie monster, Florida grabbed a couple more with Meyer.

Or look to Clemson, who was constantly accused of "Clemsoning" it before they finally won a couple of titles.

Now, the reality is that A&M really hasn't come close in any of our life times. A case can be made for 1975, but whatever idiot agreed to move that Piggy game to the first week of December should be thrown on the ash heap of history. Play that one when originally scheduled, maybe the Ags win. Can't know how it would have gone, but in early December, with I believe the QB hurt and it's not like Piggy was a pushover, bad call on moving the game.

I will root for A&M teams until the day I die (or can't remember anything, whichever comes first). But damn if last season didn't really cause me to re-evaluate things. From first place to face-plant in 5 quick games. You've got to be kidding me. I get that we lost the bulk of our offense with the injury to Moss, but for that injury to completely derail what had been shaping up as a special season is a mind-numbingly WTF moment. Daniels is a good back, but I'm not sure he's built to carry the load like Moss is.

I have long been an optimistic person with regard to the Aggies. No more. Now it's a prove-it mentality. I'll watch, I'll go to games, and all of that, but I'm expecting nothing. It's just entertainment now. And this new mentality has led me to an "oh, well, hope he gets better" thought with regard to the injury to Grahovac on the baseball team. But damn I do still want a national title.

9-3 tops. 8-4 my prediction. 7-5 more likely than 9-3

I'm at the point where im not expecting anything and will be pleasantly surprised if we pass the standard 8-4

No expectations, until we have a tier-one coaching staff from top to bottom that can develop/assemble ALL of the below…

- an experienced jr or sr leader at QB
- a first team SEC RB
- our 2010-2012 OL
- a 1st round draft pick at LB
- an all American head hunter at Safety
- quality depth on the DL
- proven winners at all the other window-dressing positions (I'll take winners over talent, everyday of the week and twice on Sunday)

It's the same recipe, as Florida, LSU, or Clemson used, as another poster was referencing.

We have all of that except LB and DL. This 2025 team is pretty talented and experienced but I think there holes in the coaching staff too. We are developmental program which means every 4 years the stars should align where experience & talent met for 10+ wins; 2025 in theory should be it.

Totally with you. As my youngest starts his recruitment, I've gone as far as saying, "Pick a school that fits and checks ALL your boxes. Not mine or your mom's or brother. I'll travel to Red Stick or Dallas."

January - we singed some underrated blue chips
February - we return a lot, we could be pretty good
March - I'm hearing our guys look incredible
April - Spring ball is going better than ever, we are loaded
May through August - I don't understand why we get no love from the media!

There's literally no point in going into any single game, let alone an entire season with any sort of expectations or our program.

Just turn the game on, have some friends over, keep the beer flowing, and enjoy the camraderie.
If you go to a game, don't overpay on tickets, enjoy the experience and the band. Take someone who's never been to Kyle Field so they can experience the wonder of it all.

Expectations of A&M contending for anything or expecting them to win any game against a D-1 opponent, particularly in the SEC, is worthless and just gets your blood pressure up. They're going to win a couple of games they should have lost, lose a few they should have won, and the rest will just be who shows up that day. The Aggies err slightly on the positive of that equation to consistently get their 8-4 and 7-5 marks.

I once thought they were just a few years from winning a natty, but now that I'm closer to 100 than 0, I think I just have to settle for enjoying watching a game with no strings attached.

The whole Texas 8&4 thing won't change much until we're consistently recruiting, retaining, and developing players into NFL prospects at a rate that sees us having 10+ players picked up thru the NFL Draft, year after year after year with consistency.

Let's do that, then reassess.

You can do all that and still be 8-4. Finishing 9-3 or 10-2 would better. Most teams that do, will put more players in the NFL. Hell, A&M might have 3 guys drafted in the first round or at least by early second.

I'm losing interest in college football more and more each season. Don't really care anymore, so many horrible calls effective games across the board. Networks and game production helping facilitate this. I gave up on the NFL about 5 or 6 years ago and I don't miss a thing. When there's so much money chasing it just ruins it for me personally. Hope the kids get all the money they can, but I'm about done with college football.
