I remember reading about us doing something like this in the past with a football coach. Can't remember how it worked out.

After reading their website, I don't even fully understand who Playfly Sports is and how they fit into the college sports ecosystem, but this sounds good.

At least we're receiving the money this time and not paying.

We will do anything for an extra dollar except win.
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

Looks like they have a huge presence in pro sports. Maybe they are trying to expand into College.

Either way 15 year $515M deal is good for A&M.

Maybe they'll divide the 34 million by how many tickets are sold for each year and lower the price.

Thanks, I'll be here all week.

Surely this means lower ticket prices, cheaper concessions and appropriate division of airtime between the DJ and the yell leaders. All the things we really care about.

So basically PlayFly paid us a ton of money to be our agent? Like they'll broker deals on our behalf and make profit that way?

Hopefully, a 15-year $515 million dollar deal with Playfly Sports will translate to more wins.

Yeahโ€ฆ with all the big things A&M likes to claim as being largest ever or best number 1 thing in the world, I'm gonna save any enthusiasm until the big 3 programs bring home some hardware on the national level.

That's a lot of money but a lot of things change over 15 years. I generally dislike any typos of deal longer than 10 years.

Quote:

. . . Since taking over in late 2021 as president of Playfly Sports Properties which sells and manages multimedia rights and strategic corporate partnerships for athletic departments Christy Hedgpeth identified a clear gap that comes into focus when a university makes a transition from one multimedia rights partner to another.
. . .
Hedgpeth, who joined Playfly in late 2021, oversees the company's fast-growing portfolio of 25 universities and conferences as well as 14 state high school associations and is responsible for driving strategy, operations and growth. Playfly's partners include, among others, Auburn, LSU, Maryland, Michigan State, USC, Virginia and the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences. Playfly's new partners include Baylor (effective June 1), UCF (began last year), UTSA (September 1) and Florida Atlantic (starting the 2023-24 academic year).
. . .
Last July, Playfly entered a 13-year deal with UCF. Playfly will pay the school $125 million to serve as its sponsorship sales arm, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Playfly is banking on making more than $125 million to pay off UCF for those rights. UCF said the total value of the agreement will rank the school among the top of its soon-to-be Big 12 counterparts as the Knights prepare to enter the league July 1.
. . .
Multimedia rights include a long list of sponsorship and advertising assets, including in-venue signage, print publications, in-game promotions, event hospitality, VIP experiences experiential activations, radio and TV advertisements, social media campaigns, digital media advertisements and more. A top priority in the Playfly transition team is evaluating how it can enhance the fan experience while they drive new revenue for the university and Playfly.

How can anyone say this is a good deal or not?
What will Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, tu, and others get for similar services?
I don't have confidence in our leadership, but on a deal that long (15 years) hopefully we have some sort of "most favored nation clause" so we remain compensated near the top or we're released to negotiate with someone else.

I have a suggestion, how about winning consistently on the field. I'm sure some fans would put down their commemorative 12th man cups and $39 chicken wrap to watch their team win meaningful games.

Exactly. All we did was set the floor. Now the big boys come in with $800 million-$1 billion deals.

Definitely would be concerned that those bigger schools are gonna get some crazy deals in the near future.

Only thing I don't like is being locked in for 15 years. Sports landscapes change rapidly and we could be way below the market average in 5 years.

and considering the Ohio St had if not the highest paid, one of the highest paid rosters and just won the title. Same with Texas who was in the final 4....i'd say every extra dollar matters.

Media rights just means we are allowing this company to use our athletics programs as their vehicle for marketing to advertisers. TAMU's media rights are attractive because we are a huge fanbase, AND we are disproportionately loyal regardless of success. That lowers the risk profile for the company making the investment... we are a good deal even when we are crappy.

For those with no clue what this is (not an insult) or haven't read the release - Playfly will replace Learfield in distributing our lower tier (non-TV) media. So on any radio/online broadcast you will hear "brought to you by Playfly" instead of Learfield. Similar to IMG as well.
They do the work of securing advertising for those media and in some cases apparel licensing. They pay A&M a lump sum and they get paid by advertisers (local and national).

We don't know all the details yet but this probably does not affect Levi as I THINK that contract is direct with AD.

[This is the same world as when ESPN/LHN paid tu "$300M" years ago (they actually paid tu $300M who then paid a good chunk of that to IMG who owned their lower tier rights).]

Also (my guess) I don't think this affects ticket prices directly. But ticket prices will be going up with lots of little "player development" or "student athlete advancement" fees. These are just NIL monies and everything from tickets to apparel to food to parking is going to have these little add ons. The NIL war is passed on like a tax or a credit card fee. Sorry I went on a little tangent there.
