I am going to say this now and then just try to be supportive of the players during the season.

Klein is in over his head. This will cause a lot of small problems that will stifle our offense. Go ahead and prepare your expectations now. It will seem like the players' fault on the field, but they aren't the ones in charge of practice.
saying this during a spring game is very funny. No plays we have seen today make it to August

You can see the signs. It's not about the plays.

I went to spring practice Thursday with 2 other coaches. The team scrimmaged. Receivers caught everything, many contested. We all thought we looked better physically. You guys put way to much in a mixed team, basic play calls, unimportant spring game.

Every bit of this…. OL for both sides pieces together. Other positions you can some what plug and play. Not OL, needs to have cohesiveness.

How long have you had this typed up and ready to post? You are going to ***** and moan regardless of what happens.

Can't make any proclamations about big things, but some of the little things I liked were DB physicality... They were sticky on those receivers. Lockhart played wonderful coverage with his pick of Reed... Hoping he really contributes this year. We need him.

OL should be fine, wr is still thin, but once we see Bussey, KC, and Mario on the field together that should be real fun. RB with a full back field is loaded. Glaring need of a top level TE. Can we buy a guy there before the season starts?

Feel free to check back this November.
You will find barely any posts from me and none blaming the players. The offense is not their fault.

I didn't have a post ready. I assumed some improvement in the overall operation would occur (not only in playcalling and execution), and that has not happened at practice nor on the field in a glorified last practice. I'll hang up and listen.

Wasn't impressed at all today with what I saw offensively. Literally left the stadium questioning why we can't afford someone that can catch a damn football.

I was encouraged by the defense in general and the young linebackers. Offensively, not much but I do think Miles has good potential if he's willing to stick around.

Reading the tea leaves looks like we're headed for a 8-5/7-6 season. Offense struggling again?!?!? Defensive line dominating a lack luster offensive line? Same song and dance.

I was at the game, here's my take:

Offensively the two best WR's are the transfers, Concepcion and Craver. We still don't have anyone who can stretch the defense in the WR group. Maybe Bussey will be able to but he was playing CB today. Overall I'd say our WR group is average. IF Noah was still here then I'd give it a slightly above average grade. We really need to find another in the portal before the season who can contribute because outside of Conception and Craver it isn't too promising except for Izaiah Williams, he showed some promise.

Marcel Reed's accuracy doesn't seem to be any better. His best throw is the back shoulder throw. He made a couple of nice throws among the misses but overall I don't see him taking the next step and getting his completion % to over 65%.

O'Neil needs to be QB2, he's better than Zeno. I'd love to see him get some meaningful reps in live games and see what he can do.

IF we run anything similar to the play calling today then look for a ton of RPO with the passing option being the tight-end to the flat. Speaking of tight ends, it is Kiotti Armstrong or bust. I really wanted the Swede to do well but Kiotti showed to be the only tight end who has the potential to create mismatches. The Nebraska transfer tight end almost had a really nice TD grab but when he hit the ground the ball bounced out. Blocking wise we should be decent from the TE group but as far as a passing threat, Kiotti has the most potential.

From the scrimmage you can't really tell much about the running game since both O-lines are patchwork. So nothing really to say excep that Moss sat out.

Defensively the DB's looked pretty good. It was funny listening to Will Lee talk trash to the whole Maroon team.

If Marco Davis plays anything during the season like he did today then we won't remember NIc Scourton's name a year from now. He was all over the place wrecking havoc on whichever tackle lined up against him. He was easily the defensive player of the game.

Tyler White can easily kick a 60+ yard punt whenever he wants to.

The transfer kicker from Georgia seems decent.

J-Train and Elko must be on the same diet.

LOL

So you will not complain about Klein or the offense ever again? Alrighty
This season should be Klein's last chance, but they'll use Reed sucking again as an excuse for Klein and simultaneously have a convenient excuse for Reed sucking. Lol

Who's to say you're not putting too much emphasis on a random practice you supposedly attended? We've seen plenty of Reed.

Sounds like a lot of nothing changed, Reed hasn't improved much and neither has the play calling. Lots of questions on the DL, if we don't have a DL then LB play will likely be sub par

Seems like every year we overlook our starting qb playing awful in the spring game & then it rolls right on into the season

Nothing appears to have changed w Marcel from watching today.... Really hope Marcel works on throwing mechanics this summer

He needs a personal throwing coach.

That was a fairly sloppy spring game, but there a lots of reasons not to read too much into it or out of it.

No matter how the spring game goes, fall is way more important.

This 100%.

Also know that Marcel definitely will work with a coach this summer, he and the program will tout this fact, and it will have 0 effect on his play. He will perform about as well as he did last year.

It's a myth that players can radically change their games from year to year. It just doesn't happen.

I don't see this team improving much from where we were last year. We're going to need a dynamic coach to overhaul our entire roster offensively.

Accuracy as a 3rd year player is innate imo. He's had plenty of coaching.

You may be right on much of this. But I did feel like Manziel's work with his private coach improved his game considerably. As for the rest, we'll see. My expectations aren't very high though.

Some players do radically improve over time but it's more physical maturity, like we see on the OL and DL. They gotta cook longer before they're ready

Something like accuracy is more innate imo like a 40 yard dash

The average rise in QBR across seasons in college football directly and pretty conclusively refutes your assertion. On average quarterbacks improve pretty dramatically between the end of their freshman and the end of their junior seasons.

Now generally yes, a three year player usually is what he is. But the statistical evidence is overwhelming that QBs improve significantly early in their careers.
