With this being Year 2 with Tommy Moffit at S&C, I am expecting to see some big results on the OL and DL.
I know we are losing a lot of talent on the DL, but Shemars and Nic didn't seem to be the best conditioned as they looked slow. We also got run over.

Anyone else expecting major changes defensively. I think we'll be back to the blitzing confusing, destructive force that Elko built when he was DC here.

I'm expecting an 8-5 type defense

Hard for me to disagree with 8-4 until proven otherwise

to answer your question i think they are looking to bring a little more speed and quickness to the defensive line. smaller quicker defensive ends. i think you will see some changes becjsee if we don't mike elko will be gone fairly soon. a defensive coach can't keep his job with a ****ty defense for very long.

I would agree. I am really hopeful in Elko's comments post-Bowl Game.
He knows that was well below his standard. He is going to be a lot more hands on and building it out HIS way...

I knew last year was not HIS defensive style.
The only worry was that due to Bateman being crappy and only calling stunts with no blitzes or was that due to personnel and they cannot grasp the concepts to run Elko's defense effectively... I have to believe it is the former.

With Elko taking over the defense I expect to see significant improvement

Was pissed to hear about DL's who lost 20 pounds and balled out at combine. That should have been happening in September.

Need to get the draft preparation DL trainer on staff!

This means offense will be significantly worse and thus…. 8-5

12-0 defense; 4-8 offense. Just like 2021.

Kind of wish we could know why this is. Are we making players develop in ways that isn't their playstyle?Shouldn't we adjust the schemes, conditioning, to the strengths of the players and through development shore up weaknesses?

Was that a failure on Jay Bateman to not utilize players' strengths? Elko is taking over the defensive play-calling so I'm happy to see that again, but no idea on how you coach up a lack of awareness in zone coverage because that was bad. Just surprised to not see any coaches leaving after that, we just added a couple of more coaches with some specialty experience.

9-3 would make me watch the bowl game.

I actually thought the DL looked good through the first half/part of the season, but then disappeared in the 2nd half. Not sure if they had conditioning issues, effort issues or scheme issues.

When you suck at the defensive secondary and have average (at best) LBs, it really limits the things you can do to try and disrupt an offense

We need these results in the fall not just the draft in May.

I am not S&C expert, but I know results don't happen overnight. I was just thinking/hoping that Year 2 would have more impact than year 1.
Just a thought.

If we get fantastic results from S&C, maybe it will be enough to offset losing three high-level draft picks on the DL simultaneously. That's unlikely, though.

it was amazing how much last year people thought he was going to make a HUGE difference. As if all our other guys we had before just sucked and this one guy knew something that no other S&C coach knew.

Reminded me of when we had Black Death during Sumlin era...people were creaming all over themselves when we won then we started losing and they couldn't wait to get rid of him...as if he was the only problem...

I was disappointed in 2024 when our players still looked like chewed up bubble gum like we did under Jimbo and huffin and puffin from the start while other teams look carved out of wood. The lack of explosiveness since 2018 is astounding. I think nutrition program needs some tinkering. Hopefully we see some major strides in 2025.

Regarding Black Death, the 2012 team was noticeably in better shape than 2011 and his teams were always strong and in shape. I recall the board being pissed he was let go and knew he was scapegoated for Sumlin's poor decision making and coaching hires. Black Death and Schmidt were the two best S&C guys we have had. Moffitt is TBD until the fall.
