I can't ever remember a QB getting the kind of hype without the tape that this kid is getting. It's just unreal. It feels like this kid is getting set up for an absolute meltdown.

He may very well have a great season; I don't have a crystal ball but good lord.
Preseason No. 1, Heisman lists, talk of NFL teams tanking and/or trading the bathroom sink for him. Is it just me or is this just absolutely crazy?!?

I've been an Aggie for decades. I get the t.u. hype machine every year. I get that the kid has a last name/pedigree but, good lord, it's just insane what's being predicted for this kid as unproven as he is.

I would suspect that anyone who couldn't beat out Quinnie might not be best of the best.

Q had a great arm but a lame head.

If the sips don't beat the buckeyes then the Austin media will turn on him fast.

Other things we know - no Manning has ever come out early and Archie always manipulates the draft for the benefit of his family.

Two other things we know...
When he throws his first TD pass every sip will cream themselves
When he throws his first INT, they will want to bench him for QB2.
BTW, who even is their QB2? Do even they know?

arch will be good, many hope he will not, but unfortunately in that family it doesn't appear that the apple falls to far from the trees. that doesn't mean he will be as good as peyton or eli but he will be good i am sure. the hype is over the top, it will be damn near i possible for him to live up to it.

If we are comparing unwarranted hype, some might remember Beano Cook predicted that Ron Powlus would win the Heisman Trophy twice in his college football career and would be the best quarterback to ever play at Notre Dame.

I'm not sure Arch is getting quite the same hype for a guy that had not played a down of college football.

Perfect storm really.

When was last time a QB played for media darling team like UT, had a last name of iconic football family, and his team was favored to win NC?
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

Are you talking about Powlus or Arch not playing a down? Arch started a few games last year and did well.

Powlus had never played a down, and his hype was ridiculous compared to Arch's.

It is pretty annoying. First to admit that he has a lot of talent. I'm not ready to say he's the best QB of the last 25 years like someone exclaimed the other day. Better than. JF, VY, Joe Burrow or others based on what? A nice outing against UTSA?

I think he was a front runner for the Heisman at some point last year. Crazy.
I tend to agree with the thinking that, if he is so good, why didn't he replace Ewers when Ewers continued to struggle? And, I also tend to agree that it will be impossible for him to live up to the hype. I guess we'll see in about 26 hours. Regardless, I'm much more concerned with what we will see from our own team and whether this season will generate confidence that Elko is, in fact, the right coach.

No doubt he has the pedigree and the in home coaching that no one at his level has with his family. I'm sure he can dissect defenses very quickly. However, I lived in NOLA for 5 years two blocks from Newman (his private high shcool). I would compare the competition to 2A in Texas, maybe small 3A. We will see on Saturday very quickly how he translates into big boy football.

It's year 3 for him. He's been seeing major college football for a while now

From the bench. If he was "that guy" you don't have him as QB2. Just my thoughts.

And his private school usually flopped pretty early in the playoffs with him as QB. There was never anything other than the Manning name and his measurables to warrant his ranking in high school.

Glad you brought this up. I don't follow football as closely as most on this board. Is this guy really all that? Based on what?

Tannehill couldn't beat out Jerrod Johnson for 3 years, and then JFF didn't beat out Tannehill. Both QBs were arguably better than the incumbents playing over them.

If Ewers hadn't led Texas to the playoffs his final two years I imagine a move would have been made before now.

You're underestimating the size of his heart. He knew he was the better QB but chose to play 2nd fiddle to allow Ewers to finish the season. - Sips everywhere

The difference is JFF and Tannehill didn't come into college with the same hype of Manning. If so, they wouldn't have been three stars.

He's a talented kid with the Manning name. CFB is about money, as most things are. Of course they are going to promote him. It isn't some conspiracy. They want money. He brings eyeballs. Look at the Sanders kids and Colorado. What was actually accomplished there? How much have you heard about the family over the last couple of years?

Ewers got similar hype when he announced his transfer, at least here in Austin, that Manning is getting now.

I thought this with his HS tape because the competition seemed so terrible but honestly his athleticism seemed pretty good in the opportunities he did get last year including against us. I do think he is going to have some growing pains though. Just wait, writers are waiting to be the first to call him a bust when he throws his first costly interception.

Beano was the only one hyping Powlus like that and was roundly criticized and mocked for it.
Not a comparable situation to Manning who seems to be getting crowned by EVERYONE.

It would be really hard for Manning to actually live up the hype as an individual player. I don't think he's going to be an elite, game changing QB all on his own. But he doesn't have to be. For them to be a championship contender, he just has to be slightly above average due to the level of talent they have purchased to surround him with, which is what I expect he will be.

Not only is yours one of the most tired TexAgs tropes but it's not even applicable in this case.

. I think Arch will be good. But he has done nothing to deserve the over the top hype he has gotten. He started two games. Was very average against La-Monroe throwing 2 picks. He was better against miss St one of the worse defenses In the SEC. The rest was package plays or mop up duty. If his name was Smith they would be saying he could be really good but not proclaiming him the greatest since Tebow.

Are you serious? It happens all the time. Matt Barkley, Christen Hackenberg, just of the top of my head. Except those guys were getting hype annually after having mediocre seasons previously

Dont forget Garrett Gilbert and Tyrone Swoopes.

This happens at sip all of the time.

I think he'll be a very good QB, but all the hype he is getting im not sure anyone could ever live up to. He has looked pretty mediocre in games against good teams, but he's QB1 now and has an entire camp under his belt. We will see.
