Jerry Jones asked for Arkie to replace A&M with Texas… influenced the school, conference office, and networks to make this happen.

Apparently he/others feels that losing to A&M have set them back quite a bit, and winning doesn't bring them the same value as beating Texas.

So much like beating Bama or ND means more, so does tu according to Mr Jones.

So that is the "why" behind us getting Mizzou; similar TV market as Arkie, with similar projections on ratings, etc. Conference office agreed…

You think SEC was gonna give mizzou to tu? That was never gonna happen... Jones phone call or not.

It isn't like Jerry has a track record of good football choices.

That's what makes the most sense. Sure, maybe the SEC bent over to tu yet again, but I think there is an easy case to make for Arkansas preferring to play Texas. They got 14 years of us and it didn't go very well. I'd want to switch it up too, if I were them.

Mizzou was never slated for either us or tu…

Original plan of schedule A&M for a win and recruiting foothold in Texas didn't quite go as planned.

Similar TV markets?

No.

Jerry thought he set up a big annual showcase for his beloved hogs comparable to the RRS in his own stadium.

As for Mizzou, they should've gotten a former SEC East school like Carolina as a permanent instead of A&M. I would've preferred State over Mizzou, personally, but Ags shouldn't really complain after getting the other 2.

I said weeks ago that Missouri wanted us, and was shouted down by the peanut gallery…

Missouri wants to play us regularly to have a recruiting presence in Texas.

Missouri requested us.

Who cares

They ran away just like LSU did in the 90s.

FYI, if the game was still in Jerry world. Jerry would still want to lose to us.

We still play the hogs twice every four years. It's not like an East/West type schedule so the lashing over it by some is interesting.

That makes sense. I remember how heavily they relied on Texas talent when Pinkel had them competing for conference titles.

Does Jerry care that much about arky football? Their NIL sucks and he should be the biggest bagman they have

Texas' most logical 3 are OU, A&M, and Arkansas. It's one of the easiest teams to set the 3 opponents for. I don't see how they would be matched with anyone else. So I doubt Jerry had anything to do with it.

Also, any time its said that someone with the ego of Jerry Jones is effectively afraid to play someone, I tune out.

Also also - for A&M, Texas and LSU are obvious. I think we are forever tied to Missouri because we came into the SEC together. While we never associated ourselves with them, the rest of the SEC sees us as linked because of that.

Which is dumb if true. By that logic Arky and South Carolina should be linked.

As long as we have a decent coach, A&M has funding to beat Missouri yearly. Boring matchup but perennial W

Which they were for 20 years as "permanent rivals" in the old SEC scheduling setup

I don't know that its true, just what I think based on conversations here in Alabama.

Also Arkansas and SC have been in the SEC for almost 35 years now. I think that's long enough for them to be considered 'not new'.

Not to mention that A&M and Missouri moving to the SEC was the first big conference move (since the formation of the Big12) in a continuing chain of changes that has ended up with where we are now.

I would quibble with this but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. They're ours for the next 4 years regardless.

Note that the permanent opponents are going to be reviewed by the SEC every 4 years and may change based on competitive balance. So our opponents are sips, LSU, and Mizzou for next 4 years.

The sips will always be 1 of our permanents as will probably LSU, but I predict Mizzou will be the changeable one if at the next review the SEC decides to shuffle the deck a bit.

Agreed. We probably won't get Ark, but I could see Mizzou change with MSST should Mizzou stay very strong.

R-Kansas will be on the "permanent " rival rotation next. Probably replacing Mizzou or LSU

Nebraska's and Colorado's moves were non-events. Utah did very well in the Pac-12 on the other hand…

Mizzou did better than we did early with SEC Championship game appearances in 2013 and 2014.

I agree but if that were the case, why wasn't Mizzou our annual crossover opponent instead of USCe? It would have made the most sense then, and now.

Honestly, I would have preferred Vandy for the road trip to Nashville or Auburn just for being the school that seems most like A&M (IMO), but Mizzou is ok with me.

Not sure how pairing two losers is a win for the TV markets.

tu vs ark doesn't make sense.
us vs mizz doesn't make sense.

mizz doesn't make sense period. they should go back to the big xii.

We will still have those, just not as often.

A lot of people on here are acting like Texas, LSU, and Mizzou are the only teams we will play every year. We will be playing 6 other SEC teams every year.

All conference realignment can be traced to Arkansas leaving the SWC because of t.u. convincing the NCAA to give SMU the death penalty

Pretty sure most Mizzou fans feel the same about A&M.

I've been surprised by how much criticism I've read over all this especially compared to the previous scheduling formats that weren't cutting it, but they can't make everyone happy.

I think this is spot on. We play everybody every other year. The difference between every year and every other is pretty painless.
