I'm not nor will I ever be as good at business and negotiating as some y'all. But I know enough that if someone is threatening to walk away, you let em!

I'm all for extending Elko if he finishes out this season AND next season at 10-2 or better. Otherwise why do the same thing we did with Sumlin and Jimbo?

Preach! I have yet to see a PROOF of a written offer for any of the coaches surface during their tenure here. Yet we rushed to extend both Jimbo and Sumlin without a second thought.

I like Elko and I'm happy thus far with this season, but let's be smart this time.

I'm just waiting for the rumors that other big schools are interested in Elko. Michigan, ND, USC, etc.

You know those are coming at some point. Happens every single time an A&M coach starts doing well.

The landscape has completely changed. A&M is EASILY a top 5 program based on the only thing of importance….money available to pay players.

There are doomers in every fanbase. If that is something he actually let's get to him and something that actually bothers him, then he's not cut or for coaching at any major CFB program.

The only thing that is going to cost us is if another program with resources and ability to win similar to us becomes open and decides to make a run at him. They don't even need to make a run at him per say, but at another coach with a resume similar to his and they pay that coach a ton. Elko's agent will reasonably expect us to match.

Florida is going to be in the market - which mean Ole Miss or Mizz will be in the market after that.

Long term, I could see Elko wanting to coach at Penn State over us. Don't think there is a coaching turn over there this year, but maybe next.

I would not give any extension regardless of what happens this year. Could be a fluke. See Jimbo and Fran and Sark and Norvell, etc...

Besides it's actually way more likely to be the fault of pumpers for building him and the program up to unrealistic levels before we suffer the inevitable letdown, making it appear that much worse. Rinse, repeat ad nauseam.

I'm confident that Coach Elko is not leaving A&M at this time for the NFL or any other college program.
Everything considered there's not another college program that brings more to the table then A&M.
After what he's started to build here in just two years to leave it now would be foolish.
However, if he decides to leave so be it.
I seriously doubt that will happen.

For the 1000th time, the problem wasn't the Jimbo extension or even the raise. It was that it was fully guaranteed with no liquidated buyout, and no reduction if he takes a new job. And Liucci has suggested before that Jimbo wasn't even asking for any of that. We just gave it to him for free because our administration is/was full of ****ing morons.

I don't care if we extend Elko and/or give him a raise if he has a really good year. But we need to make sure that we have a liquidated buyout where we only have to pay him like $15 million in the event we fire him, not the entire value of his contract.

With all of that said, Elko hasn't earned an extension or a raise. If he has a really good year, he has heavy incentives in his contract. He gets an additional $1 million for making the playoff, $1.5 million the quarterfinals, $2 million for semifinals, $2.5 million for making the CCG, and $3.5 million if he wins it.

It only took a few decades for our multi million dollar earners that are making decisions to figure this out.

The rumors are inevitable, for any program that has a high level of success. Whether or not a program and it's supporters/fans/admin buys into those rumors and how they handle it is where we have failed in the past.

He would not have come or accepted the extension without those terms, so the point is moot.

If Elko starts demanding that stuff, let him go.

They aren't working some 9-5 job and getting offers from Indeed. Everything is done through agents. Both sumlin (usc) and fisher (lsu) had offers on the table. We match or they walk. Sumlin might have been okay to walk. Fisher no way at that time. Not even close. During those rumors at the time this board was already adamant to extend.

And make no mistake if Elko makes the playoffs he will get better offers than his current contract, possibly by some blue bloods in the market. If that happens we will have some decisions to make.
