Billy Gillispie reaffirmed his commitment and signed an extension, only to take the Kentucky job about a day or two later. Schlossnagle insulted the press for even asking such an inappropriate question, only to take the Texas job less than 24 hours later.

There's a lot of ways to handle this wrong, while it's probably right to deflect the question and state that he's focused on what we're doing now. Behind the scenes, his agent can leverage any interest he gets into a raise from us.

I didn't get the feeling that he was addressing the fans. It seemed that he was talking more about the reporters and the media.

He did seem extra perturbed by the media today. Probably because they ask the same stupid questions every week.

Elko seems to have forcefully denied his interest calling speculation "hilarious". He's building a good thing here. Our pockets are just as deep if not deeper than Penn State. I don't see him leaving.

If we collapse in Nov they won't want him. He will have done nothing.

If we make the SEC championship game and then the playoff he will get paid plenty. Penn State isn't winning a bidding war with us for a coach that actually took us to the playoff. Especially with their 50 million to Franklin.

1. Elko is underpaid in relation to the market. Most likely, this is due to the Jimbo buyout.

2. Why can't these coaches be honest and say, "No. I'm not interested in that job."

Transfer Portal window is Jan 2-16th.

Schools could maybe wait to hire a head coach who made the playoffs but lost in first round. But not be able to wait for a head coach of a team in the quarter finals playing in New Years Day games.

Odds of poaching a HC of a playoff team pretty slim and of one of the last eight teams in the playoffs almost zero.

I don't remember anyone calling for Elko to be fired 2-3 weeks ago.

Then he needs to not read the internet. He isn't going to find a fan base that doesn't have an outspoken minority that is never happy. Certainly not at Penn St.

If there is something about A&M or the environment that he doesn't like then he should just leave. There isn't anything else we can or should objectively offer him that we aren't already.

The reality is there is no loyalty. Either way.

The good news is A&M has everything a coach could ask for, even if some of you are unappreciative, feel entitled, and annoying as hell.

"My opinion is that TexAgs reporters should not be poking this beehive unless they have some actionable intel that suggests Mike is talking. It feels aggressive and Lord knows we do not need to be starting fights with our HC going into November."

He is only in year 4 as a HC (2 at Duke, 1+ at A&M), not "WON" anything yet and making $7M a year + $3.8M in bonuses if he wins the MNC.

Does it seem like he's doing great things? For sure. Has he won anything yet? No.

If he wins it this season (or at least gets to the finals), will they restructure. Magic 8-ball says "most likely".

Until that happens, there is no reason to rush out and give him a raise. That would be only marginally worse than the Jimbo raise.

If we need to do a salary restructuring for Elko or any of our successful coaches, hopefully we will be smart enough to raise the buyout number.
If Elko had a 20-30 million dollar buyout, not many schools would be interested.

Just to put all this in perspective, back in 2002, when Bob Toledo was fired at UCLA, Mike Leach had been at Tech for a couple of years and was starting to see a little success. Just to stir things up with Tech fans, which I enjoyed doing in the early days of TexAgs, I posted a message that UCLA insiders had said that Leach was at the top of their list to replace Toledo. Totally pulled that out of my butt. Well, the next thing you know, The Dallas Morning News had picked up the story, quoting my post almost word for word (with no accreditation), and had even gotten a quote from Leach about it. Pretty soon, every published list of candidates included Leach's name.

Moral of this story: There are a lot more Internet trolls than there are "inside sources".

ANY school ither than Penn St and I wouldnt be worried. Until they hire someone, I'll be on edge with this one.
