Walked around the topic, get use to that being a weekly question Coach until you give an actually answer.

He did answer the question. Zane asked if he discussed it with his players. He said no.

I suspect the question will become more direct but this one was not. Zane is just warming him up.

ETA: My opinion is that TexAgs reporters should not be poking this beehive unless they have some actionable intel that suggests Mike is talking. It feels aggressive and Lord knows we do not need to be starting fights with our HC going into November.

I respect Zane for the Schloss question but this is not that, yet, to my knowledge. If it is, TexAgs should shine light on the info.

Thankfully Elko and Schloss are not cut from the same cloth. Elko has more character and integrity in his little finger than Schloss could ever have.....They are completely different people.

No one here contributes to the coach's salary or buyout. Your beer and hotdog prices aren't changing whether Elko gets a deal or not

Because only an idiot would believe him. It is'nt about Elko, this is how the game is played.

Given the last ten years of buyout disasters, any school that signs a long-term guaranteed contract Is foolish.

Pay the man, but keep it incentive based.

When the season is over.

Anything else would be foolish

maybe.

Elko, between this time as the DC and through 1.5 seasons as the HC, has proven to be the best football coach we have seen here in 30 years.

imo its time to put a bow on this and enjoy the next ten year ride

I can't tell if you're trolling but no thanks.

He's doing a fine job, but that's what he was paid to do. We didn't pay him to go eight and four.

And personally, i think the big fat guaranteed contracts kill the motivation for coaches. The program has the money to put top players on the field and a 100,000 fans in the stadium. If a coach doesn'think he can win here and hit the incentives, let him go somewhere else.

that is the world we live in.

The world where we were mocked and derided for giving Jimbo Fisher a big fat guarantee for which he is owed $7.2 million annually until 2031 (if reports are correct).

That world?

The mantra this year has been finish.
If Coach and the team finish, he'll be rewarded. No question.
If he prefers another location, them money won't matter imo

yea that world, where now all the contracts are guaranteed and there are close to a dozen schools that will be paying that level of buyouts by the end of the year.

so, for the non believers, what does he need to do at a minimum to deserve an extension this year?

9-3?
10-2
12;-0?

what is the point where you would say hell yea?

Souring personnel who might work out and giving them a reason to leave is unwise. Our HR decided my entire job grade is over market and decreed 0% raises to correct it. My leader said he and his boss both recognize I take care of an area that could use two or three of me. Guess what that makes me think?

Funny to see all the posts not wanting to pay any more $ to Elko acting like it is their $.

Would you tell the Yankees to quit spending $ too?

Not my $ so I say lock him in...just don't negotiate such a big buyout.

Elko knows A&M will take care of him. This is a big nothingburger. There are literally no ties between Elko and Penn State other than he is from the northeast.

Elko just finished moving his entire family here, he's in extremely fertile recruiting country that he and his staff have already been excelling in, and the Penn State job is not a better job than Texas A&M, in 2025.

ETA: Honestly, it may work best for Elko to wait till closer to the end of the season to renegotiate his contract. The big money Ags will be much more open to large numbers when there are double digits in our win column. If Elko is consistently doing this, no program will pay him more than the Aggies.

That's basically what everyone is saying. Keep the contract incentive based. The program spends a lot on nil and facilities.

I think if he can take Texas A&M into the playoffs in year 2, he deserves an extension.

Its not about spending the money. It's about spending wisely and making sure our resources are allocated in a way that will result in winning more games.

We can't afford another extension and guarantee right now. Can Penn St?

They can, because the second franklin takes another job his buyout is offset by the new salary (or at least I remember reading this)
