Real kolaches or whatever you call the meat ones (I know it has a name, but I'm German not Czech ), I will say, Slovaceks in West. I know that's heresy for the locals to hear. I stand by it, anyways. Those are always my favorite of any of them.

Shamelessly, I also like to Cambodian kolaches in any of the run on the mill Cambodian donut shops. And more than that, I like the Shipleys ones in Woodway. Yes I know that's not the real thing, but I still like them!

I've been to Green's, Czech Stop, and a few others. The best in my opinion is Four Czechs in Fate near Rockwall.

This is incorrect. Czech Stop is good, but Gerick's is much better.

If you want to know what it is called in Texas, go around and ask who wants a klobasnek. You will get one nerd at his computer that gleefully raises his hand and the rest of the room will have no idea what you are talking about.

Announce that there are kolaches in the breakroom and provide fruit pastries then marvel at the WTF faces as the burly crowd grab their pitch forks.

In Texas it is Waterburger and Sausgae Kolache and the facts simply do not apply.

Correct

This is kolach

This is a klobasnek:

This x1000.

I'm half Czech and at every family reunion we had fruit-filled kolaches from a bakery in Colorado County. Dad had an aunt who lived in Garwood and she was very insistent that we had one.

That's a time in my life which I surely would love to have again.

And...

I am not arguing it is technically correct. It is Texas correct. Like Waterburger.

The question was regarding 'Texas Kolaches' which means there is meat, or at least the way I understand it. If that is the correct category then the correct answer is Prasek's outside of El Campo. Their little pigs are phenomenal.

I'm born and raised in Moulton and I have no idea what you're talking about. Bea's in Shiner is really good down the road, but the only person I know making kolaches in Moulton used to own Bubbie's in College Station.

Czech stop was good 20-25 years ago, but then, due to their geography on I-35 became a "go-to" place for travelers. Their breading isnt as buttery or sweet as it was. I find their klobasnek sausage very unappetizing. Too chewy, bad casings. Not much flavor.

Green's processes their own meats. Their "sausage and cheese" has their own cheese inside the sausage so its melty and flavorful. Its not between the sausage and breading like Czech Stop. Its truly a masterpeice and top notch road food.

(Edit: also they dont cut the sausage in half longways, its a link, so it doesnt dry out when you cook it.)

This is a klobasnek:

Sure, if you live in Czech.

But you're in Texas so what you have pictured are Danish pastries and a kolache, respectively.

And no need to tell me that you have a Czech grandparent blah blah blah. Nobody cares.

Czechs settled Texas, they cook their food, they get to choose what to call it.

Kolach literally means wheel. A pig in a blanket is not a wheel.

Klobasnek means sausage.

Again, nobody cares.

Next, someone is gonna run along and say fajitas can only be made with beef. Ok, nerd.

Haven't been to the Original, but the "other" best is the Kolache Shoppe on Richmond across from Costco.

Mr. Ahrens sold that to a couple of Aggies, I was told, named Randy & Lucy Hines in 2014. They are now opening 1 in the strip center where The Pit Room is located. I hope they make it there.

Fajitas aren't made, they're grown. The word is describing a particular cut of meat; skirt steak. What you're thinking of is a fajita taco, which is not the same thing as a grilled chicken or shrimp taco.
