If the Ags beat tu (which they will, dammitt !!)….

I would rest ALL my starters in the SEC Champ Game in favor of better long odds in the CFP - creating a quasi Bye Week against a tough, physical opponent.
We get NOTHING for beating Bama in the Champ game, except the potential for a bye week in the CFP…

Pick who you want your bye week against…

A physical SEC team in SEC Champ Game or against a less physical Big 10 /Big 12 / ACC / Gang of 5 team in first round of CFP…

You may also lose to Bama in SEC Champ Game and get worst of both worlds…

CFP Champ is all that matters…. Gotta play the long game…

The algorithm says rest in the SEC Champ Game…

Ya know I've been thinking how the conference championship games don't seem to matter much with the CFP expansion now. So you're not crazy.

Of course coaches do have incentive bonuses for winning these games.

So, if we lose the SEC Championship with second stringers, and lose in the playoffs (not reaching the championship game), we win nothing and the season is a bust. Play your best players and keep winning.

If we had multiple recent conference championships under our belt, I might agree. As it sits, I'd go for the conference championship. Especially since there is no guarantee this even helps you.

Now, maybe we can get bama to agree and we can both play 2s

Getting into and seeding in the NFL playoffs is based entirely on W & L, not some committee rankings. Completely different animal. In the CFP, wins and losses and OPINIONS count.

Exactly what "algorithm" tells you that what you propose is a good idea?

They rest players in regular season games and many times get knocked off by a wild card team in the playoffs. It's not a good idea and it ain't happening.

OP - no.

If we get to Atlanta, you play to win. Who knows if we'll ever get a return trip or 10? 1997 - went to Big XII title game and lost. 1998 - went to Big XII title game and won. At that point I thought we were in great shape and would play in that game many more times. Win when given the chance.

You also don't want your starters to get out of game mode or rusty coming out of Atlanta.

You play to win the game period. SEC Championship is a huge step for the program. It's a statement of who this team is physically, mentally, and emotionally. Nothing gained by sitting players and preparing for the CFP. Can't even believe this is actually a topic.

This is loser strategy. You want to give up the chance to win an SEC title by playing the second stringers? Do you know how stupid and weak that would make Texas A&M look? The Aggies would get ridiculed and given no respect and called quitters. All the Aggies have to do from now on is play and beat everyone and anyone put in front of them. And anyway, there is no way any of the players in the locker room would go for this.

Also twice in this thread you mentioned testosterone. What is wrong with it. Are you a chick? What do you think the Aggies locker room is full of? Do you really think they would just say let's forget the SECCG and concentrate on the national championship. Winning both in one year is the goal of the team.

And to add, the sips made it in their first year. Georgia won that game by the way. They can brag and say that Texas A&M have never been. And that infuriates me.
