Assuming he's healthy and ready to go - do we start him over Owens? Does he get the bulk of the carries?

Curious to see how rusty he will be and if he might press and try too hard. It's been awhile since he's experienced hard contact. Would hate to see fumbles. But I'm sure he wants to put some good tape out there ahead of the NFL draft.

Interesting question. An argument could be made for waiting until a change of pace is obviously needed to bring him in, but I doubt it. His play unlocks the offense in ways we've sorely missed and having that as soon and as long as possible is too important to gamble.

Moss can't stay healthy and Owen's is clumsy. Both have their strengths and flaws. Make a plan to give them equal carries but adapt as the game progresses to feed the hot hand.

Start Owens because he's less rusty, but play both heavy in the rotation, nearly equally until you see one is doing better. In fact, put in a few plays with them both back there at the same time.

Wasn't moss having some sort of issues before he got hurt this year?


I think the speculation was some kind of anxiety-stomach thing?




Also our biggest issue is tackling people carrying the ball.... I'm not sure how moss is going to help us there...

He's not going to make that much difference for us. We run well when we block and when the D is worried about Reed throwing accurate deep balls

I'm not sure I'm buying your take. The offense looks way different when he is in the backfield. And he runs angry. And to say that he is only a good runner when Reed is passing it well, doesnt jive with the rest of the team. When the offense isn't one sided, it's dangerous. Regardless of who is in the backfield. However, everyone starts to pucker a little more when Moss is in the backfield which opens up the throwing lanes for Reed and the crew. Look at the ND game.

This is just not true. He's the best at following blocks, best at waiting for the hole to open, best at hitting the hole downhill, best at breaking tackles, and most physical runner. And it's really not close.

i believe i read this earlier this year but moss hadn't had a carry of negative yards all season. if memory serves me right he didn't have many if any last year. he isn't bo jackson but a guy who can get you those tough yards and house it are pretty valuable. to me he reminds me a lot of rodney thomas if he could stay healthy he is pretty special.

Agree with this so much

When he is in the game he makes a 1 yard run a 3 yard run, a 7 yard run is a 10. When our biggest issue on offense is getting consecutive first downs when it is 2 and 3 then 3rd and 1 he makes a difference and anyone who says otherwise has not been watching.

Rust? WTF are you talking about? These kids have been focused on playing football since they were in elementary school. A month of not playing in games (but still being at practice) means nothing. The far bigger issue is whether he's checked out in favor of preparing for the draft.

Moss is the only RB on our roster that could play for any other P4 playoff team. Moss is elite. The rest, are situational backups at best.

Moss makes the whole team better. Controlling time of possession. Tiring out the other team. Keeping our defense fresh. The other RBs are serviceable, but not good enough to stop the opponent from overplaying the pass.

Yep , Smith is our hope to rejuvenate the running game. Perhaps we'll figure out that he is more valuable when he's actually inside the sidelines, playing.

I believe you're correct. CFP games are the end of this year and the start of next year. Owens is Elko's RB.

Agree. Not sure why the OC is unable to see this. Smith, to me, runs with purpose....like Moss. I'd be putting Smith and Daniel's in, but then I'd be opposite of the OC so I'll leave it alone. Just hope OC has 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th and goal in short yardage situations figured out.

EJ Smith should get most tough yardage situations. Let Owens start but the minute a blade of grass trips him up with 20 open yards ahead of him make him ride pine.

And he'd still likely be better than what we have now. That's not a slam on the rest of our backfield. Moss is just on a completely different level than the rest of them.
