I'm surprised there aren't a lot of commitments from the portal today. I guess only now they can go on campus-visits. And maybe some schools don't want to appear to have been tampering…so should at least wait a day.

And something like 80% of first-round draft picks are blue chip recruits. Utter idiocy to suggest we not recruit the highest ranked recruits just because of their ranking.

Upgrade over Randall, but long of 47 and 50 is not super impressive. Attempted 2 kicks of 50+, both were last year, he was 1/2.

Also, it is just Illinois barstool account, so this could just be BS speculation since they know he gone.

23/44 of indianas two deep are still from high school. Ole Miss has 20/44 from high school. So close to half and half for each.

Oregon, 33/44, Miami, 28/44, also have more from high school than the transfer portal. Georgia, Ohio state, bama, and tech all have more HS than portal

7/8 of the final teams still have more HS than portal players in their two deep.

You can never neglect high school recruiting. Just a poor idea

Or is Reed the best the Aggies are going to have.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Reed will be the QB unless Hart, Marcos or Casuga win the job in the OS. I don't see his replacement coming in via the portal. JMO

Thank you for the info. Ill be sure to act accordingly when the season starts and keep my expectations low. As I do every season.

No actual info from me, just my opinion. I think Elko will be addressing another needs in the portal. We have to keep in mind that there's not an infinite amount of NIL dollars available, and also that even though we may make the highest offer to a kid, he still may go elsewhere. Lastly, I'm not seeing a slam-dunk QB in the portal - it certainly isn't Lagway, and as great of a story as it was, I'm not sold on Mestemaker. The AZSt kid may be the best available.

They will probably bring in someone to be the backup, but not any of the top names in the portal I'm sure. Ideally they will bring in someone with a similar skill set to Marcel

Genuine question, its seems year after year as far as I can remember, going back to the late 90s with Mark Farris. Aggies always seem to lack at the QB spot. Except for JF, why do the Aggies struggle year after year at the QB spot. Are we not recruiting will at that position. .Do we not have the coaches that can develop these quarterbacks?

Other schools seem to recruit absolute studs or ballars. Aggies juat seem to get a guy that can just do enough or bare minimum. Its frustrating to watch year after year.

Reed is a good QB and above average. Everyone is looking for and trying to recruit or xfer sign the next Mendoza, etc. but Marcel compares well to many good QBs and still has room to grow and improve.

Half the SEC and most of the Big 12 would be pumped to get Marcel as a xfer.

Not saying he is great or a difference maker, but he is above avg. and of course we are looking to upgrade at EVERY position all the time.

And I'd be just as happy to be keeping Marcel if we were in the bottom half of the SEC, the Big 12, or if we were Purdue, Rutgers, Cal, or whoever.

But we're not. We're on the edge of breaking into the top echelon of CFB, and Reed likely can't get us there. Case in point, he hasn't statistically improved from last year. Not good enough

So sorry for wanting a QB who doesn't look loss half the time. Or over throws the WRs by 10 yards. Or with the game on the line throws a damn pick in the endzone.

You could probably count on both hands the total number of schools that have "absolute studs or 'ballars'". Top QB's are a rarity. Most are average to serviceable.
But furthermore, we recruited Kenny Hill, Kyle Allen, and Kyler Murray. Clearly they didn't pan out but to imply that we're not recruiting studs at the position is ignorant at best.
