It's less this, IMO, and more the Oc's willingness, of lack thereof, to center a game plan around Reed's best assets: his quicks and open field instincts.
You are 100% correct that if Reed was 190 instead of 170, he likely breaks a FEW more tackles, but it wouldn't be a lot. The real asset to weight is his ability to absorb hits, and give Wiggins the confidence to actually RUN REED!
Klein force fed a drop back, pocket passing game upon this offense in significant part, IMO, due to his fear of Reed getting injured. Couple injury concerns with a terrible backup QB situation, and I would wager the coaches felt the entire integrity of the offense was precariously teetering on the friable edge of a cliff that was Reed's health (particularly after Moss went down).
