I can see it paying off in other sports, but in football they will still get smacked around in the first round of the playoffs every year.

Its not a bakery, and playing cupcakes all year isnt going to prep them for big boy football in December and January.

It will get old.

What is kind of crazy is they made him chairman of the board of regents at Tech.

You can play for a guy who says he wants to win, that played ball in college and the NFL, and then went on to make a billion.

Or talk and play for old rich alums that talk about nostalgia from a bygone era.

It's not surprising at all that he's been just as successful as A&M or texas in this new era.

Don't be so sure.

I for one thought Indiana was gonna take a beat down from OSU.

This era of CFB is spreading talent to the extent we may not see two or three teams controlling things. The SEC may well have lost its grip on CFB domination.

Losing a key player to NIL and gaining a locker room wrecker can destroy a teams year.

Blue bloods with money may keep themselves in the playoffs annually. However, it's going to be difficult to keep team chemistry consistently high. See Penn State the past two seasons.

Until they start money whipping generational talent.

Curt Cignetti would have you believe otherwise. He's the cockiest ******* I've ever seen.

He should be cocky. Indiana is winning with only a couple of 4-star athletes and a bunch of 2 and 3 star guys.

All schools at the top have money. Some even just as much or more than Tech and are willing to spend it.

I agree with that. The topic is Texas tceh though. Its obvious that they have a guy or two thats willing to vastly over pay. If thats the case, and they sustain that for let's say, 10 yeas. They'll acquire some generational talent pieces. As in a Johnny Manziel-type of player. This makes things very interesting. Im not buying the iron sharpens iron talking piece because if they were to get enough talent within a window, it wont matter who they play from September-November

Their QB held them back this season. If they had the right guy at that position with the players in place, they probably make the Championship round

Manziel is an interesting example. We lucked into Manziel, as didn't buy him and he wasn't highly regarded as a recruit. Tech's strategy is to throw money and hope that imbecile Joey McGuire can luck into a championship. That works against the Big12. It doesn't work when you get to the CFP and everyone spends as much as you, has as much or more talent, and elite coaching.

And it wasn't just Tech's QB. It was their OL. Their WR's. Their RB's. And even their back end on defense. And depth up front. Tech's vaunted defensive line was worn out by the end of that game. That's where the high school recruiting, development, and strength and conditioning helps with depth in late games. They never had to do that with their schedule. They need to build a complete well coached battle tested team to go far in the CFP. Going to be hard to do in that league.

Tech has gotten some high profile guys, but I wouldn't say that they have beat us and texas out left and right for everyone.

My guess is that we put more in the NFL draft in both 2026 and 2027.

Collectively we can match or exceed what Indiana and Tech can offer. And we often do.

Careful, lots of money at TTU. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they bought themselves into a better conference one day………no one else in the Big12 can sniff that kind of money.

This is a desperate reach for a negative take on what tceh is doing.

This is exactly what you do to build a powerhouse. Buy elite players. And even if the money dries up- get to the playoffs enough times - which they will- and you don't have to overpay for players any more.
Yup. Our donors are wussies in comparison.

I love how the sugar daddy Cambell is throwing all this money at all these players, yet he goes on all the podcasts and on these boards about "saving" college sports. complete hypocrite.

I don't think he's a hypocrite at all, and actually agree with him across the board. I hate this NIL crap for all the points discussed in this thread; buying players, creating me only 1 year mercenaries, head in the sand pretending it's not pay-for-play. I hope he is successful in getting something to change on that front to make it stop.

in the meantime, this is the law of the land, and he has the cash to burn. If you're going to allow them to do it, to do it, then do it. I don't like it, but im at least glad my school is a have rather than a have not in the NIL era. Hold your nose and write the checks while it's the way of the world. But football gods willing, this won't be the way it is much longer.

He's a hypocrite because he doesn't believe any of it. He knows once the hammer falls and the B1G/SEC break away Tech is left in the cold, regardless of how much they spend on NIL. So he's only supporting a law that keeps that from happening.

Campbell mentioned previously that he was not necessarily planning a long-term strategy. He had predicted that he would get 2-5 years of being able to spend unlimited dollars before controls would be put in place to limit expenditures. He is hoping to buy a natty before controls are in place and all the previous advantages the big boys had return.

Actually think its a really good strategy. You probably can't outspend the SEC schools forever, but you probably can for a few years. Basically taking the MLB model. Trade away all your good players and suck for a decade while building a giant warchest before unleashing it all make a run.

LOT of ignorance in this thread (and a lot of good posts from thise who understand)

1. It is NOT just one booster- Tech has many big money supporters

2. Joey McGuire is a good-to-great coach, on so many levels.

3. The AThketic Dept at Tech is one of the best run in the country. Severely under-rated and unknown by most of this crowd.

4. The football team at Tech is MUCH closer than most- it is NOT a team of mercenaries like so many here like to think.

Tech ihas an athletic program that few in the country can match. Thst's a fact and it would be nice if we quit making embarassing posts that make us look petty or worse.

A&M does NOT need that look- we are first class and should respect the good efforts of ofthers. God knows how long A&M was misunderstood and underestimated for so long.
