Try $4.1M

Apparently Coleman wasn't a fan of Tech so they went HUGE

Granted that number is just a rumor

That's absolutely insane, and tells you all you need to know about Tceh. Lubbock is a ****hole and ttu is a second-rate institution so they have to money-whip players to go there. These players chasing the biggest bag are just prostitutes providing an entertainment service. Good luck to them.

If you build a championship contender who's consistently in the mix, it doesn't matter where it is, whether Lubbock or otherwise. And should they ever get to that point, they'll attract talent inherently.

But in the interim, while they're still trying to build it up....they've gotta do whatever they can attract and land em, and overpaying is part of it....especially if they're trying to expedite the build up.

$4.1M? Didn't they pay like $5M for Sorsby?

If you go to Tech as a football player, I automatically know 2 things about you: you care more about money than anything and you don't like to compete. In today's world, this is the easy way out.

If someone offered you 4 million to play a few games, you'd take it. This says zero about his character.

So is there a cap or not? Why not just pay 10 absolute studs 5M per and end it.

There is a cap on revenue-sharing ($20.5M for each school for 2025-2026 for all of its athletes), but not on NIL deals. However, any NIL deal that an athlete receives has to be for a "valid business purpose". In other words, you can't just funnel $10M to an athlete without having them do something for you in return (like act as a spokesperson for a company, promote a product, etc.).

All NIL deals over $600 have to get approved by the College Sports Commission. This all gets shaky though because the CSC's actual oversight of these deals has seemed pretty minimal so far, so nobody really knows if the money going to some of these athletes is by the rules or if John Does are over here setting up LLCs and shelling out bags of money without a valid business purpose.

Las Brisas is really good.

This must be their go to place. My most recent visit a few months back on a work trip I saw Jacob Rodriguez (star Tech LB) there with some booster. We were a few tables over. The whole thing looked a bit awkward, but of they're paying them you obviously show up.

We would and will absolutely match a $2 million offer for Cam

100% agree, but we won't overpay at $4.1M which is detrimental to other needs and the team.

Tech (and Cody C) see the same '26 schedule they have and also know there is a short window before this all comes to a halt with a CBA or some other guardrails.

Yes, there's no cap on NIL deals, but there is for revenue sharing, which some of these athletes seem to be getting as part of their total package. The NIL portions of the deals do actually get approved. The CSC had approved 8,300 of them as of September. Whether or not they are actually reviewing each deal in detail or just rubberstamping them is another story.

Seems like the CSC has the potential for massive corruption as all things NCAA have always had.

CSC blanket approves all deals for School A but rejects most for School B.

Just so happens CSC approver went to School A and School B is their rival.

Give everyone on this board a billion dollars, and you don't they would throw 5 million a year at their favorite portal player?

" He left Lubbock without taking their offer."

Tceh has to significantly exceed offers from other schools in order to close the deal. We don't need to fixate on Cam Coleman if it causes us to miss other players we need.

Main thing is to find a burner that can take the top off the defense. Doesn't necessarily need to be a former 5 star. Mario Craver wasn't a big star when we signed him.

How are these deals structured? When someone gets a $2 million NIL deal is that $2 million for just the next season or is that a total based on some expectation of multiple years? Are there any performance clauses attached or it just $2 mil whether you play good, bad or not at all? These dollar amounts are just insane.

I think it should have clauses for payments dependent on staying with the same program, playing in the post season is required, and plays completed.

Make this kids earn it and don't pay it out- it should be in a trust or fund they get upon milestone goals reached.

Bowl season would be legit then.
