We weren't in the SEC then.

The Worst:

The loss to App State, no if's, and's or but's about it. Devastating loss.

The Best:

Johnny Football's Heisman year and Cotton Bowl win over Blow U.

That one would be more popular if we had gone on to win that regional.

No doubt. It was just an enjoyable moment with my son, so probably very specific for me.

Yeah it's wild that the epic grand slam happened and then about 6 hours later our season ended.

Auburn horse-collaring the **** out of Johnny with no flag with 20 seconds left in 2013 was a real kick in the crotch. Result of the play was 4th and 13 instead of half the distance to the goal and 1st down. A&M lost 45-41.

That Kenny Trill South Carolina was a thing of beauty and so unexpected. That has to be on the list.

The worst was the Rose Bowl loss to UCLA. A close second was the 2014 beatdown at the hands of Bama.

Not getting the 4th playoff spot in 2020 and it going to ND which gets throttled.

Throttled by the team we got throttled by

I don't think we had a snowballs chance to beat that Bama team on a neutral field. But I will say every league that year has expanded playoffs … so why not college football? Seems like the perfect year to try 8 team playoff.

That would have put us going to south bend in the quarterfinals as the 4/5 matchup

Ohio State took our spot that year, not ND. I don't know why so many people remember this wrong

Ohio State only played like 6 games that year and should not have been considered

ND ended up in the 4th spot and we were 5th

For me, Best:
2012 Bama upset. That was the moment the SEC realized we belonged.
Johnny's Heisman season. Doesn't happen often and probably won't be topped individually.
7OT vs LSU. Absolute chaos and peak Kyle Field energy.
Baseball's CWS runs. We've been knocking on the door consistently.

Worst:
2016 collapse after starting 60. That one still stings because the path was right there.
Both losses to tu since they came back. Hard to swallow after all those years apart.
Schloss leaving the way he did. Not just leaving how it happened.
Overall though, the SEC era has been more good than bad. We've had legit highs just missing that one breakthrough title moment to tie it all together.

Right now it feels like more bad than good, I won't be convinced til we beat Texas and win the SEC in football so I may never be convinced.

Not sure why you say that. We didn't consistently beat Texas and win either the Big 12 or Southwest Conference, so why should it be any different in the SEC?

I love the Aggie football team - don't get me wrong. But one of the things I love most about the SEC is how it has elevated our other sports. Winning national titles in volleyball, women's tennis, men's and women's track and nearly doing so in baseball has been incredible. Year in and year out, we legitimately have a chance to win all kinds of titles in non-football sports.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

I get that. Football sets the tone for everything here. Until we beat Texas consistently and actually win the SEC, it's going to feel unfinished.
But I also think we're letting football define the entire SEC era. Baseball has been elite. Basketball has had real moments. We've had Heisman-level highs.
The problem isn't that it's been "bad" it's that we haven't had the signature championship breakthrough. One SEC title in football probably flips the entire narrative overnight.
Question is are we actually close, or are we still pretending we are?

UCLA loss was the lowest of the low. I knew that was the end of Sumlin. Losing to App state is second. I knew that was the end of Jimbo.

Another good one is Jace breaking the home run record or him playing with a broken hand. He was a rare case of an athlete nowadays that cared about the school, not just the money.

What a loser's mentality.

I hope our coaches and athletic department don't hyper-focus on one opponent. Please tell me the actual people in charge aren't embracing the 'little brother' mantra like these two posters are. Yea, beating Texas is great...but I'd much rather consistently make the playoffs and contend for - and maybe even win - a national title.

Most are covered, but Johnny's comeback win against Duke in the Peach Bowl should be included on the Best list. I never leave games early, but almost left that one at halftime. Glad I didn't.

No, the little brother mentality is saying it doesn't matter if we beat texas. when we don't beat texas it's quite honestly the worst feeling to feel as an Aggie, and it'll have been 16 YEARS since we beat them by the next time we meet. so no, the loser mentality is that it doesn't matter if we beat our biggest rival or not. and yes, the coaches should be focused on the Lonestar Showdown because it is quite literally one of the most important games in all of football.

It's not even the biggest game in our own conference, much less all of football.

And there are a lot of years it's not even the biggest game on our own schedule. In 2025, it was probably the 3rd biggest game we played behind Miami and Notre Dame.

That's why I say your reasoning is the epitome of the little brother syndrome. Beating Texas is the most important thing to you...when in reality, it typically has little significance in the college football world.

Getting owned yet again by the sips in Austin to blow a potential first-round bye in the playoffs.

Best moment was the volleyball team wining the natty a few months ago.

I do like how the Playoffs were a great sip silencer this year. It was very easy to distract them from the results of the head to head when you could point to them watching the big boy games from their couch. They also don't like being reminded (or even perhaps initially educated) of the fact t.u. holds a whopping ONE game lead in the series over the last 51 years.

I feel completely the opposite way. Blowing that game in Austin ruined our chances of doing anything in the playoffs. Losing at home and only scoring a FG is all a direct result of not beating a team we should have beaten. We did not play a "big boy game" against Miami in any way, shape or form.

And what sort of gerrymandering is "the past 51 years?"

We've been back together for 2 years and owned both years. Since 2000, we're 3-11 against them and they've won a national title, played for 2, and been ranked entering our game 13 of 14 years. We've only been ranked coming into 5 of those matchups, and only ranked in the top 10 once - this year.

it's water under the bridge...

but c'mon...the 2022 loss to App State was light years worse than the 2017 UCLA loss

A&M was ranked #6 in the country and playing at Kyle Field in front of an announced crowd of 92,000...and lost to an unranked App State team that finished the year 6-6

the 2017 opener was a matchup of unranked teams in the Rose Bowl. It was embarrassing for sure, but it wasn't a home game vs. an unranked mid-major opponent
