Apparently Texas is the one that did the investigation into this and brought it to the NCAAs attention.

Ahh the SWC memories. Texas getting the NCAA after any SWC team that started winning.

This is all Texas does. They steal coaches after success in state and they hunt down rules violations to expose teams succeeding. Nebraska football was ruined by Texas, they stole Beard, Schloss, and I would bet my ass they have a huge hand in this too

The Nebraska thing was about partial qualifiers and non-qualifiers, I thought.

Nothing that was against the ncaa, just demanding that the players (or their representatives) pass a test showing they could read and write their own name.

Yes, the University of Texas influenced that decision - hurting Nebraska… a rival at the time

The end justifies the means over on the 40 Acres, even if the means used by the sips is unethical, immoral, unprincipled, unscrupulous, dishonest, and/or unprofessional.

Yep, that stuff is just as addictive as heroin or cocaine. Going to be a lot of young people who end up with problems with sports betting as we move forward.

Going to be? Brother it's already here.

Kids will be in debt up to their arse, then will start throwing games to pay it off. It already happens, but it's about to get worse

Making millions in NIL for one season in Lubbock yet still gambling is peak level stupidity. What a moron.

Has money in their pocket ever made a 20 year old f***-up smarter??
Usually has the opposite affect

And it looks like he made the bets prior to signing with Tceh

Pretty sure Team Diego looked in to all avenues to stay in College before he put his name in the draft

Correct. He bet on Indiana while he was on the roster, which is a huge no no. His college career is mostly over.

Yeah they're saying thousands of bets over the last 3 years. He should be done and even the NFL will probably be wary of him.

That said, college and pro sports need to make a decision on the gambling thing. They are all about taking that sweet sponsor money and promoting gambling which is addictive, especially in the younger population. This kid is 100% not the only one doing it and there are probably on every roster that are.

It's likely that the only reason he's in treatment is so the punishment is less severe. This way it becomes an addiction and not his fault. There will be an apology following rehab and probably a religious proclamation. CFB is learning from Hollywood.

That said, this gamification of life is a problem. He is not unique. Somewhere we got on the rich Biff Tannen timeline.

FIFY

Edit to add. If I were a player on techs roster, I would be livid with the moron. Their backup is in rehab and likely won't be ready to play. Oh well, at least if you're a starter, you're are making big $$.

The PR damage control people will always send their project immediately into 'rehab'. 1) They can't do more harm going forward. 2) Subject has less access to media so its easier to groom/repair your image if you aren't running around in social media (3) 'rehab' makes it a 'medical issue' which implies your got sick and couldn't help yourself. Of course its all BS but this is what PR people do.

How would/did the ncaa find out? Did he blab? I don't think the ncaa can confiscate your phone. The gambling site wouldn't sell out their clients. Did he use his real name or something dumb?

Texas wasn't involved in this. Cincinnati had been holding on to this card for a good while, and played it to bolster their lawsuit against the kid walking his contract with them

Theyre not. But ut-Austin needs to take the hit because they did this hypocritical **** decades ago and acted as if they were squeaky clean and not the snitch.

Remember back in the 80s-90s of the SWC when some teams would get investigated and fined/restricted/punished for wrongdoings while others who were likely doing the same thing were not investigated?

This sounds familiar.

What do you mean just in the 80's and 90's, teams now get the same treatment, why do you think Saban retired, he could no longer be the only one paying players under the table so when it became legal it was harder for him to hoard all the talent. Not to mention LSU and the children's hospital. Just to name a couple of instances.

I've seen this movie too many times, and I think nothing is going to happen. Tceh will have their QB in time for the season, or worst case 2-3 games into the season when they play someone that is a smaller cupcake than the cupcakes they play first.

Don't be so quick to sweep this under the rug. Betting on a team that you are on (even if you dont play that game) is a pretty BIG no-no that historically gets you blackballed. We will see what comes of it, but its not a good look.
