Smith taking on 3 defenders and getting a shot off. Kind of bad ass.

I was surprised to see such a sloppy performance tonight. I suppose the weather played into it. Glad to see us fight back after going behind. We'll still need much crisper performances against better opponents.

The CC coach apparently started hassling the ref who finally gave him a yellow card. After a really clean 80 minutes, the last 10 got a bit chippy with lots of fouls and holding. I think the players got tired and with the long game and bad weather the play deteriorated at the end.

Good win under crummy conditions and a really long night.

The win is always nice but our play was spotty and some of the players had a tough time with decision making. Passing was somewhat poor. Some of the players really struggled with first touches. Our outside backs are guilty of some questionable / poor passes.
Enough complaining. Winning is good and perhaps the closeness of the match will result in a sharper Sunday performance.

It was a struggle tonight from a technical standpoint but A&M still dominated possession and set up a lot of scoring chances that weren't finished. We flirted with disaster but found a way to score a couple of goals to come from behind. Colorado College played the classic quick counter game as they sat back and waited for their chances, most of the time from horrendous turnovers by the backline. Frankly, it's getting a bit ridiculous to see some of the passes coming off Jordan Hill's feet - I lost count at 8 turnovers due to kicks directly to the opponent. I just don't understand what she is doing and she is becoming a serious liability going into SEC play. But Ritchie had some bad turnovers too and Alston had some poor touches as well. Morche made maybe the best save of her career off a free kick late in the game, and the goal she gave up was a rocketed shot she didn't see until it was too late (we didn't close down space from 20 yards off a rebound).

The midfield didn't have the flow or rhythm they had against Santa Clara and were just a bit off most of the night. Thankfully Asdis has been using a set play on offense where she comes off the 18-yard mark and a pass is delivered to her, where she quickly turns and fires a shot from 20 yards out - she scored the equalizer tonight and has a couple of those goals this season. Rheagan Smith struggled a bit with her touch tonight but did get the winner off a corner and celebrated with the team on the sideline. Watt had a couple of nice crosses into the box that were kicked over the goal (ugh). Bates got hurt and looked like a hamstring pull. I don't think she will play Sunday.

This certainly wasn't the team that showed up against Santa Clara, but I think it's not realistic to play at a high level every match. We need to play efficiently in games like this and we didn't really start playing hard until we fell behind 1-0. The rain was miserable as well and the multiple delays didn't help. I'm going to chalk this one up to an off night and move on. We need to clean up the passing and stop turning the ball over out of the back going forward.

Watching CC play was like playing FIFA with the dude who will never do anything but kick it as far as he can out of bounds...Geoff needs to create a new strategy or something

Looked like CC really packed in their defense and tried to keep us out of the middle. I think their goal was set up by Ally's retaliation foul. The winning goal was set up when their keeper was undecided about picking the ball up before it went over the end line or letting it go and she touched it. We got 3 corners and the 3rd one went in.
My player of the match was Addie. She really picked it up with Emily out and was all over the place. On another thread some posters expressed concern over Jordan Hill's passing. I now understand the concern. Emily had a wrap around her left thigh after the game, Jimena looked a little injured after a tackle where the CC got carded, and Cossette took a little while to get to her feet after being hammered in the box. I don't think Emily will play on Sunday.
Give the team credit for playing through some adversity.

It was a tough single goal win that could easily have been 4-1. The weather and delay made it very tough to execute properly. I'll call it a good win under difficult circumstances. Congratulations to the players and coaches!

The team is supposed to be introduced at the men's football game today for winning the SEC Tournament last year. I hope they invited Stephanie, Mikaela, McKayla and Haley.

Does anyone else think Iceland belongs as attacking mid? Rheagan and Ally and Emily can split time as two forwards. I hated seeing Emily injured but it might have opened up an option to improve the team. Emily plays her heart out and can run forever, but she can get lost in the midfield. Iceland showed a big presence there in her one chance.

Alternative is Emily at outside mid. (See I am stuck on Iceland as attacking mid). Emily has speed and scoring ability we can use in several positions.

We can use Ally and Emily and Rheagan at forward. Gives us depth. Others getting time up front have not impressed as potential starting material.

If we need a passer in the forward group to complement or set up our speedsters up front, we can try others (not Iceland or Emily) from the current midfielders. I am not sure who would best fit that role. Yes Iceland can do it but I am starting to think she is most valuable withdrawn a bit.

Jordan Hill. Very good 1v1 defender. Equally bad at times passing the ball, and yesterday (against CC) was worst yet. Gotta decide what to do with her. I recommend many many additional passing drills. With 3 back the 1v1 skills are critical so we need her But errant passes in back third can kill us This is where Coach earns his $. (And his grey hair.)

Grace is tough as nails. I like it. In some past years I think our team has lacked a bit in what I might loosely call the enforcer category, but Grace shows other teams that we too can be hard as nails. Don't f with us! Her passing is usually okay but can be variable. Scoring ability impressive. ( I do worry she might get caught one day if she continually goes to that quick cut pass behind the closing defender when we are working the ball out of the back. It works for her, but if it ever doesn't work it will not be pretty, so please don't go to that well too often!)
