It ain't that deep. But I am sorry that you, as a man, are not afforded the same opportunities as women.
Correct. It isn't deep. Vandy wanted some positive PR to come out of a dreadful 0-9 season, so they came up with this. Pretty cut and dry.CDub06 said:

Aaah.. so it's all about the "cause" for you. Even you know she didn't deserve to be on the field due to merit, but for the cause. Maybe someday a woman will actually earn her spot on the field and we can cheer a legitimate case. That would be a lot better, wouldn't you think?Quote:

You know how this works, so you know it's true. The fact that she didn't win her spot in a public and open tryout is all you need to know. She had to be snuck onto the roster in the dead of night.jeffk said:

It has all the appearances of a team without 4 kickers who needed someone who they knew didn't have Covid-19 and would be available to practice and travel on short notice during a week when the school was on a week long vacation.sharpdressedman said:

Edit for spelling.
A "big conspiracy" of 1 or 2 people? I'm following Occam's razor here. Your side is the one having to twist everything into knots trying to explain how she really earned this and that a 30 yard long chip "squib" was actually "perfect".TXAggie2011 said:This is an odd thing to say when you're trying to pick this apart to try to prove it essentially was a big conspiracy.Quote:

Sure there is. Having her make it through athletic merit is much better PR than them picking an unqualified woman just so they can say they were first for PR sake. If they held public tryouts, she wouldn't have made it. So they had to do it this way.Quote:
By the way, if you know all along you're going to do something, and you want good PR, you don't "sneak it through in the middle of the night." Like, there's no reason to be "sneaky" about something that's completely within your power, you want covered in the press, and is eventually going to be shown live on national TV.

And to be clear, I'm sure they don't mind good press.
It's not about the cause for me. I really don't care. It's just amusing that you're so triggered by this and feel like a men have been wronged by a fairly insignificant decision.aTmAg said:Correct. I mean, I just quoted the coach and someone said when they coached, they would do similar kicks. I'll add you can also see she performed similar kicks in video of her practicing. You wrote several paragraphs breaking down why you believe the coach was lying and there's no way what she did was intentional.Quote:

I haven't said anything about "men being wronged". I just find it humorous that you guys think this is some sort of Jackie Robinson moment.CDub06 said:It's not about the cause for me. Like I said. It ain't that deep.
This coach knew he was gone. The only "success" he could squeeze out of this weekend was good PR for himself. So if that is the kind of "success" you are talking about, then I agree.jeffk said:
Yeah... O's Razor is that Fuller gave the team the best chance for success.
Well, Branch Rickey didn't host an open tryout and the best player happened to be black. Branch Rickey wanted a black player for the sake of having a black player. Jackie Robinson was a great player, but also a clear result of very deliberate "affirmative action." So, yes, this appears to be different.Quote:

I see the winky face, but I'll respond anyway... Branch Rickey didn't need to hold a tryout. Blacks were already playing baseball at a high level in the negro leagues and were seen by scouts. Robinson was clearly hall of fame caliber regardless of skin color. That is clearly not the case for Fuller. Any coach interested in getting the best kicker he could would not have done what Derek Mason did, but would have had open tryouts instead. Any coach interested in good PR would have done exactly what Derek Mason did.TXAggie2011 said:Well, Branch Rickey didn't host an open tryout and the best player happened to be black. In seriousness, no one has suggested this is a "Jackie Robinson moment."
Correct. It was 100% PR move.CDub06 said:
Yeah... no one has suggested that.
And as you continue to post paragraph after paragraph, I'll repeat "it ain't that deep."
I don't hate her at all. Just like I don't hate my own daughter. I'm just honest enough to admit that neither of them are good enough to kick in a football game.DuncanField91 said:

I've not seen that reported. Hopefully the Football Board provided a source. Can you provide the source?Quote:
BTW, according to the football board, Vandy was going to have a tryout within the roster, where it was expected that the punter would win. However Mason canceled it and handed the job to Fuller without giving anybody else a shot. All this despite her not being able to get it past the 30.
This is laughable coming from someone who has spent 2 days calling the coach a liar and trying to reveal a conspiracy.Quote:
Sorry, recognizing facts doesn't make one misogynistic. It's reality. People like you are the one who is unable to deal with it. That makes you the snowflake, not me.
I asked for a source just for you. An you aren't getting the point. The videos of her kicks show that they were pathetic. There is absolutely no way in hell she is beat out the punter with that.TheAngelFlight said:I've not seen that reported. Hopefully the Football Board provided a source. She certainly could have kicked it 35 yards and past the 30 yard line if she made a 38 yard field goal, by the way.
This is laughable from somebody who can't accept basic common sense. It doesn't take a "conspiracy". It takes one guy deciding to give a woman an unearned chance to kick a terrible kickoff just so he can go down as the first coach to ever do it.Quote:This is laughable coming from someone who has spent 2 days calling the coach a liar and trying to reveal a conspiracy.Quote:

So yeah... 100% PR.
You aren't getting the point. The video shows that her kicks were pathetic. And whether or not she could barely kick it farther than 35 yards is not the point. There is no freaking way she could kick father than the punter. If we pretend that she was more accurate on FGs than the punter (which I find hard to believe), then that doesn't explain why she kicked the kickoff. Except for it being a PR move, of course.TXAggie2011 said:
No, the football board did not provide a source. The poster also made the same claim in the same post that she couldn't get kick the ball 35 yards downfield when we have video of her kicking the ball further than that.
Ha.. that is hilarious. Just look at this thread. The first mention that this is a PR move gets you snowflakes out claiming sexism, misogyny, etc. I couldn't give a rats ass about Vandy football. I don't know anybody on the team. My son wasn't passed over by Fuller. I just recognize reality for what it is, and you guys get triggered over it.Quote:
Its possible. But its also possible that's completely made up considering we have no source. The football board is just this side the politics board in its ability to feel triggered indignation.
Either the coach was trying to save his job by appealing to SJWs, wanted to go down in history on his way out, or it was a PR move for the school. It doesn't matter which. She didn't earn the spot due to performance. That's what matters. Congratulating her for "breaking barriers" is like claiming this kid was breaking barriers for 7 year old cancer patients.Quote:
(Edit: I want to add cancelling a tryout doesn't mean it's a PR move.)
