This should put butts in seats in Houston, right?

Let's hope this is finally a real change of direction and outreach to the Hispanic fans in Houston that prior management ran off.

No way I am supporting that.
I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele. I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'

The other new designated player is from Paraguay and we've had plenty of DPs from Honduras and elsewhere in Latin America that didn't move the needle. Cubo from MX didn't do anything but he wasn't very good. Maybe Hector will bring a boost in this market because he's a hero, but I think the squad needs to win if they want butts in seats. Not sure if Hector does that or not. We'll see this summer. Good to see that new active ownership is trying and being proactive. It's been hard to figure out why the Houston market isn't a huge soccer scene, especially when places like ATL bring it.

None of those DPs are on the level of Herrera when it comes to pedigree and name recognition. Herrera has nearly 100 caps for the Mexican national team. Cubo, Elis...there is no comparison in name recognition or pedigree.

The only thing the others had over Herrera is age. He'll be 32 when he plays his first game with Houston. But that's still not ancient by soccer standards. He's currently getting significant playing time at a top club in a top league. I don't know if he's going to be a success but there's no reason to think that he doesn't still have the physical ability to dominate MLS games for the next couple of seasons.

I also don't know how much he'll improve the on field product. The Dynamo have a long way to go before they can be considered good and he is still just one player. And yes, I think ultimately success is a better driver of relevance and attendance but even success is not in and of itself a guarantee of maximum attendance. I would argue that the Dynamo should have been even more relevant and had even higher attendances when they were really good and that they became irrelevant far too quickly for a team that was one of the better clubs for 6-7 years).

Anyway, I'm not a fan of his but frankly I can't think of a better signing for this club at this point in time of its history. It's going to take a long time before they are even anything approaching good on the field but this has the potential to drive short term interest at least. And after 10 years of nonsense from various ownerships, it's critical for the new owners to signal their intent with a signing like this and give some hope that this ownership group will be different.

Just realized I replied to you when, in actuality, that was meant to be a general musing for the most part.

In other general musings, we actually won a game. Quintero with a stupidly good goal to win 2-1 after being 1-0 down.

Houston Dynamo FC have signed forward Thiago on a year-long loan from Brazilian Serie A side Flamengo with a purchase option, the club announced Monday.
The 21-year-old joins Houston via the league's U22 Initiative. Thiago has made 60 appearances across all competitions while playing in Brazil, helping lead Clube Nutico Capibaribe to Serie B promotion as a teenager prior to his transfer to Flamengo in 2019.

More Brazilians, less mexicans!

They won again...

Currently in 5th in the West.

Haven't seen that in a long time.

As you might expect, I watched zero of the game but it appears that they used the counter as their attacking mode of choice. But after the last several seasons, I'm not going to complain about the methods if the result equals a win.

Currently 1-0 up on FC Dallas. Game is on live here so I'm able to watch my first game this season. Based on what I've seen thus far I can conservatively say we are going to win MLS Cup.

But seriously, I've seen more precision in passing and off the ball movement in this 1st half then maybe at any point in the last several years.

Well, we blew the lead and then some. Last 20 minutes we just rolled over. Nonetheless, I was impressed what Nagamura has done in a short period of time with a team that still lacks a ton of talent.

Went to my first Dynamo game in a long time. The team is kinda fun this year. Pat O might be on to something.

I attended my first ever MLS game. I follow EPL. Great experience. My wife surprised me with tickets. She hates soccer so it was pretty awesome of her to buy them.

3-0 over the Galaxy on the road puts us in the final playoff spot for the time being.

Worth noting that the 3rd goal came from a 6'1" Icelandic striker who successfully executed multiple stepovers before ripping it past the goalie near post. What a sight to see.

Overall we are playing much better than previous seasons but equally inconsistent. Our best performances this year have been top of the table quality....then we just randomly lose to a lower quality team to bring us back down.

Need to find some consistency.

I often think about the good old days.. Brian Ching, DeRo, Holden, etc. We've been so bad for so long.

Checking back in and the Dynamo are 1 spot of the playoffs. They definitely look better than last season but still not terribly consistent. Will be interesting to see if Herrera can push them up the standings a bit.

Well seeing as how not even the best players in MLS are even good enough to be a washed out Euro player, Ill take it.

I watched the first half of the game last night and was surprised at times by how dynamic we look moving the ball forward. Carrasquilla is our midfield engine and does so much for this team. Was about 3 inches too high from scoring a screamer from 30 yds out. The refereeing was very suspect. Looked to be 2 very clear handballs committed by Portland in the box and neither were reviewed or even replayed.

He started 27 games last season for a club that finished 3rd in La Liga including starting and going 90 minutes in each of Atletico's Rof16 CL games against Manchester United. He's in the final years of his career but he's definitely not washed up.

Yes he's so good that Madrid let him walk that typically doesn't happen if you are a key part of teams starting 11.

How many goals and assists did he have during that span?

Dynamon don't need a holding/def mid fielder they have that in a cheaper younger Coco they need a number 10 0 9 ferria sucks.

I didn't think the Dynamo were good enough to develop any real rivals but this Zombie character sure seems bent about something. Troll away, my dude! ;-)

HH is a great signing and the kind that the club should have made years ago.

True. I don't think I've ever heard of a really good player ever leaving a club on a free transfer.*

I am really glad you aren't running a football club.

* Note to the reader: he had in fact heard of many really good players leaving clubs on free transfers.
