The hope has to be that the away games so far will have prepared us for away @ mexico, @ costa rica and @Canada to try to take some points from those games. Gaining experience does matter for young players.

We may have gotten a point, but todays performance was embarrassing. The point just papers over the cracks because people will act like we did what we had to, even though we were thoroughly outclassed and lucky to hold on.

Take a look at the zoo after we lost to Arkansas. That's what we just did. It's not even the loss (or draw, in this case). It's the fact that other than for a few moments (Spiller's TD run/Weah's goal), we didn't even look like we belonged.

The problem for USA is very similar for Mexico. USA gets up for Mexico since that is a huge rivalry, and similarly Mexico tends to play down to their competition and only gets up for big time games against the traditional world powers. (Not so much against USA though.)

Yes. I don't get upset if we get out-talented. I don't get upset if we lose but played our hearts out.
I do get upset when we lose every second ball. When we make lazy play after lazy play. When we aren't mentally engaged enough to close players down. Simple, fundamental things that should be non-negotiable. Effort. Mentality.
This isn't a first for this team either re: not being in a vacuum.
Qualification isn't assured. We have some tough games ahead. Yet people want to pat ourselves on the back and say mission accomplished because we managed to steal a point.
Very possible that we're looking at a do or die situation in the last round of fixtures and wishing we hadn't approached some of these games so lackadaisically. It's not the result. It's the way we got there.

Four points is fine from a qualification standpoint. Six would have been great and a draw coming off a big win is disappointing.
I'm more bummed about Busio not showing out than I am about the tie. Also, on rewatch I think Steffen misplayed the shot on the goal. He may not have saved it even if he gets his feet and hands sorted correctly but his technique was bad there.

I believe Mexico as a team has an incredibly low emotional IQ. Their emotions dictate and control entirely too much of their game play. THAT is why they play like crap against perceived 'lower quality' teams once things aren't going their way, while the truth of the matter is that Mexico simply isn't a good team because of their hubris and uncontrollable emotions...
I'm just going to say that this match going on in Edmonton is a master class in ****housery. Canada had learned to play CONCACAF style.
I enjoyed playing in the cold, but what they're doing there in Canada tonight is just down right silly.

Just watch, Brian... Canada scored and took a 1-0 lead. The wheels will now fall off for Mexico, they'll start playing even more out of control with their attacks, and with their defending (which will be done with bad fouls). It plays out the same way every time Mexico gets down in a game against a Concacaf team...
The end of the half was comical. There were like three fouls in a row against a Canadian player. The R blows the whistle after the third and the Canadian was like "thanks ref". And the Referee was "yeah sorry dude. That's not a foul. It's halftime. Let's go inside."
