An "Lol wow" comment?? Why is anyone surprised? He's lived in Germany his whole life and his only tie to the US is a father who left his mom. It's a very different story than a Pepi, Weah, or even fellow Germerican Damion Downs. If he's good enough to get serious consideration from Germany - good for him. He's a German.
The Kickin It show has taken a weird turn and I've stopped watching, but back when it was focused on the US team, a few interviews confirmed for me what I suspected about some dual-nats: the juice isn't worth the squeeze. That is - the gain in raw talent is tampered by fractures in team cohesion from having someone who really doesn't want to be there (but loves how the exposure/prestige of being an international helps their club career).
And it's tricky. We as outsiders can't really evaluate it, but I agree with Donovan's controversial take: if a guy is never gonna come back to the US after his time on USMNT is over, he has no business ever being on the team. Again, that's subjective and hard to evaluate from the outside, but I bet folks on the inside can tell, and we've had some coaches who would overwhelmingly prefer European talent just for the sake of having it, rather than having guys that actually want to represent the US - to our detriment.
And yes, I realize I'm a hypocrite. Banks' talent and potential is huge, and I still think CB depth is our biggest weakness so I wanted him to come help there. But in the back of my mind I have wondered if he'd be yet another dual-nat who fit Donovan's category⦠seems obvious now that he would be.
