This is pure insanity. They are just taking a massive massive gamble and must be completely mortgaging the future. If they don't win Champions League, I have a hard time believing they will be able to pay light bill.

According to the guys on TSS, they are selling club assets and eventually players to bring down their debt. I don't see this working out for them in the long run.
If you say you hate the state of politics in this nation and you don't get involved in it, you obviously don't hate the state of politics in this nation.

I know for these players Barcelona is still very attractive, but I don't see why you'd want to go there when they're literally struggling to pay their current players. They owe de Jong like 12m dollars.

That's the other side. They already owe millions upon millions in deferred wages that they have yet to pay. How can the new players be confident that they will get paid?

I've heard that they are in $1.4b in debt. From a players perspective yes I see why you want to go play there but they are heading to bankruptcy like a runaway train.

Yes, someone needs to stop them from themselves. They are selling future profits for liquidity now and gambling their future on winning immediately. They are selling significant pieces of their LaLiga TV rights (revenue) and marketing company. There is usually only one way this ends.

So the joke tweet that they would cease to exist as a club in 3 years not only wasn't a joke but the timeline is a year too long?

I know they can't register new players without income but this seems to be a suicidal way to generate income.

They really need to nut up and just sell anyone over 23 with any value and rebuild with academy guys and free agents willing to take a reasonable salary. They would miss out on EL/CL for atleast 2-3 seasons but it would allow them to reset their wage structure and pay down their debt via outgoing transfers.

They have the same problem we've had. Players are simply refusing to leave because they make more in wages. Didn't United offer like 75m for FdJ and he has flat out said no.

And I agree, except they continue to sign guys to huge salaries so they don't seem to understand the issue.

This is crazy. They need revenue to make the numbers work and they have literally sold their future revenue rights away. This is kicking the can down the road and when they get to the can it will be a 55 gallon drum full of rocks.

We'll see. The Messi cash cow is gone. They can't magic their way into wins. Juve spent time in the wilderness after the match fixing scandal.

Remember Valencia was once great and mighty but bet their fortunes on real estate development around the stadium in 2006. Sometimes it's out of your control.

Absolutely. Let players who want to leave take the IOUs.

Not much movement at bloated clubs like PSG and Barca clearing their roster with the salaries their players command. Mostly just expired contracts.
