UEFA explained to the Barcelona executive that they could not use several years' worth of future Champions League television money as there was no guarantee that they would qualify for the tournament in every season. This is due to the fact that Champions League qualification is secured through sporting merit, rather than reputation and legacy.
The Barcelona official was understood to be genuinely surprised by the rejection.
Reports coming out around Barcelona all summer are so, so gross. Braithwaite deserves every penny of the contract. So does Frenkie de Jong. So does everyone else.

Barca want money back as they spend $50m on Lewandowski & negotiate contracts (illegally) for players at other club? https://t.co/kuW8oVtFY8
I'm really shocked they haven't come together and filed a lawsuit against the club.deadbq03 said:

La Liga have rejected Barcelona's attempts to register 5 summer signings (Lewandowski, Kounde, Raphinha, Kessie, Christensen) and 2 contract renewals (Dembele, S Roberto). Club must raise more funds before league campaign gets underway in 8 days.News (mirror.co.uk)

Incredible. Spanish radio claim Barcelona jointly set-up a holdings company to which it paid €150m of its own money to buy its own assets (to inflate value of sale). La Liga rejected it as not "new" money. Barça must now pay €37.5m tax on this payment.https://t.co/tCBQH64e3Z

This is why they need Super League (and I bet anything Real Madrid is in a rough position too). When they said Super League is needed because soccer clubs would collapse without it, it's because Barca and Real spent like crazy without any repercussions for so long. They think they are soccer and if they're in trouble then everyone else must be in trouble too.
Hate the lot of 'em.

I absolutely don't get it. How can you trust the club?
Real is not near as in a bad of shape as Barcelona but they are not in good shape either. They had to sell a 30% stake in it's $1billion renovation of Bernabeu, giving up it's stadium revenues (minus tickets), in order to have money and go ahead from the league to spend this transfer window. And it only did that by recognizing that revenue this year even though the renovation won't be complete until 2023/24. The debt they're carrying is 4th in the world behind Chelsea, Tottenham, and Barcelona.AustinAg2012 said:
Lol at lumping RM with Barca. Madrid's books are pristine compared to many clubs, especially the Catalonians. Regularly winning the CL will do that.
Edit: And five people starred that post. Good stuff!

my youngest son (FTAC '24) did his part to help Barca by attending the match against Pumas yesterday at Camp Nou. he was about 10 rows up from the corner where Lewandowski celebrated his 3rd minute goal.
