Oh well. Didn't play well and Panama is a pretty dangerous team. Lackluster midfield and attacking play finally cost us a game.

Not really sure if any of these fringe guys stepped up and took ahold of a spot on the A team this tournament. A few flashes of brilliance, but no one really made a ton of noise or improved their stock considerably imo.

I think you found depth.

Cowell is very raw and very young. Give him 4 years to develop something of a touch.

Jesus solidified his position in terms of depth. He's not starting on the A squad but B teams are very real things and who knows how injuries will play out.

Vazquez is very young and raw and is B team depth.

The rest is deep depth.

Some of what's here would have made a very good Olympic team a year from now if they were still on a U23 team. Then again our senior team would be a hell of an Olympic team if they weren't playing big boy ball.

I think cowell is clearly on the come up and needs more caps leading up to 2026. Other than that, Jesus, busio and mihailovic played decent. Vazquez had some nice runs and attacks, but garbage elsewhere. Everyone else played honestly slightly below average or worse I think. Turner excluded as he played well obviously.

Its all about players continuing to develop at their clubs, and then showing out when they get chances with the national team.
We gotta keep developing quality depth, so that we arent just reliant on the right 13-14 players being healthy.
Then you can select the best roster from players based on form, and tactical flexibility.

Sands scared me when he first came up and played #5 CB in the last gold cup. Then he got a couple of caps at #6 in the midfield and didn't impress much. I didn't think sands was in the cards for the 2026 cycle. Then he busts out in this tournament, after I think Tolkien sucked in game 1 v Jamaica, Sands played exceptionally well at 6 in the other four matches in this gold cup. To the point that he might be the second best holding midfielder in our pool right now behind Adams. Has Pomykal gone away? Is Yueill a 6?

Pomykal just cant catch a break with injuries at bad times, it feels like. This year he looked fully recovered from the surgery and was back to his dynamic, two-way playing. Then he got some sort of quad injury and basically missed the last month. He was part of the initial pool of players that was announced for the Nations League and Gold cup, then got injured soon after.
He could could just randomly leave them all behind some day, and I still expect him to move to Europe in the next year or so. He already would be without the injuries, but you cant pretend they dont exist either.
Hes not a 6 though, he's ideally a box to box 8 that you can also play out wide and potentially as a 10 as well. But all those positions you lose his elite ability to read the game and break up/turnover the other team on their side of the field.

aside from being injured, his next step involves being more directly involved in goals. Hes really good at making the smart/quick read and pass that leads to the goal, just needs to bang some in himself. Young players and injury issues is very frustrating, see Reyna and Pulisic for examples of that.
