Dumb question, but when you buy RTB tickets, do you next have to spend an additional cost on actual tickets? Do you get to chose those actual tickets or are they selected by FIFA at any price? thanks

It's definitely a separate purchase of ticket(s).

Here's some info I got:

You will be able to convert this collectible into the possibility of buying one ticket for the match mentioned on the card. Once the ticketing department announces the calendar and the key dates for ticket sales, you will receive an email from us with instructions. There is no action needed on your end until you receive the emails.
In the meantime, this collectible can be traded on the marketplace, the email will be sent to the holder of the collectible at that time.

In case anyone had their spouses sign up as well, it says in the FAQ that households can only have 1 application. Households with multiple applications maybe removed from lottery

Well I guess I'm just the kind of sucker FIFA is counting on.

Since the RTB I got wasn't for a pair of tickets like I was hoping for, I decided to hit their resale marketplace for RTBs. Turns out Houston group stage is going for under $200. Dallas is under $250. I went ahead and grabbed a RTB for M35 since that's the only group game in the state on a Saturday.

I will freely admit that their secondary marketplace is a giant pain in the butt. I've never done a thing with crypto wallets and that's what they make you pay with. But it did work once I figured out what on earth to do.

(Side note, when I purchased the new RTB I talked about a couple days ago, it was in USD, so only the resale market is this crypto nightmare).

But now I'm set. Not saying it's for everybody, but I feel good knowing I'll get to buy for a weekend game when I know I can travel there. I realize chances are decent I'm gonna pay more for the RTB + ticket than the secondary resale market (especially if M35 ends up being two nasties), but I like the guarantee.

Now I gotta decide what to do with the M90 I got previously… they're listed for $400+ on the resale marketplace, so it's possible I can turn a profit. But seeing a R16 match would be pretty cool…

Supposedly emails are rolling out and the first people are getting lottery slots for Oct 1. If the info I found is reliable, they're sending emails out 48 hours before the window you get selected for.

Best of luck to all. Supposedly 4.5 million people registered for the lottery and they're only releasing 25% of the tickets for this window.

Anybody heard anything about how long this release window will be?

Best I've heard is that it will be "a couple weeks."

They're also going to send a "sorry about your luck" email when it closes, if you didn't get selected.

If you don't get in during the Visa presale, American Advantage members get a chance at tickets on Oct 13th.

I was able to get in during the Visa presale but didn't end up buying anything because of the prices. I'm likely completely off base, but I just don't see how a midweek game during the day for Venezuela vs Senegal or something like that is going to stay this expensive. Category 2 is the 400 level already in Dallas or Houston and they wanted $350/seat

I saw this posted on reddit. Pretty significant markup from 2022.

Here is the table for Qatar in 2022 with set prices, not dynamic.

Are the categories just the quality of the ticket (club, nosebleeds, etc)?
wangus12

Yes.

This is what one looked like in 2022. The difference this year is Category 4 in past WCs has always been for people from the host country. That's not the case this year.

I just don't see how this ends well. For fans coming from abroad, who typically have less disposable income than Americans, I just don't see how a lot of people are going to afford it. Euros are used to paying at most 60 euros to see major CL matches. Especially for them to sell out 80k seat stadiums for 104 matches. I had friends go to Qatar that went to 4-5 matches for around $500-700 total.

Air travel and hotel prices are all up, sounds like entry Visa things are going to be a problem, transportation around these major cities.

I do think the big nations will have big crowds, but I've been to USA v Mexico games at AT&T that were 60% full. The other non-Top 10 countries are not gonna sell out imo and could end up looking very bad in the lower bowls of these stadiums because people aren't gonna want to pay $500 to see Nigeria v Iceland.

I'm shocked that FIFA is trying to make a money grab and will probably ruin things, absolutely shocked

Yep and I'm sure the stadium owners are also demanding a large cut of the sales since I think FIFA is making them shut their stadiums down to actually put down and grown legit sod fields and not the bs rollout crap they always usually do

I hate the US is going to be playing only the West Coast until they get to the semifinals unless they finish 2nd in the group then they get sent to Dallas in the round of 32.

But yup it's a huge cash grab now.

100%. There are going to be some incredibly empty stadiums in the group stages. The prices are just ridiculous and isolating the host country to the West Coast is a large middle finger to the rest of the country. I get the logistics aspect, but the normies don't and won't understand. This is shaping up to be a PR nightmare of a WC. I'm planning to hit the secondary market for a match in Houston or Dallas. I'll happily go to a match like Paraguay and Bosnia but not for $350 pp.

Because I'm a sucker, I can confirm that people are dumping their Right To Buy tokens on the Collect marketplace. Prices are much lower. So yeah, people want no part in those ticket prices (especially those of use who were dumb enough to waste money just getting a right to buy).

I was able to turn a small profit on the M90 I had when I sold a couple weeks ago, but I was dumb and bought a few others at that time in hopes I'd have options in case of a bad draw.

Will be interesting to see if FIFA's "dynamic" pricing responds to people not buying the tickets

Holy ***** I just found the category maps for each stadium. Category 4 is legitimately non-existent. Maybe 50-100 tickets tops. Why even advertise that bull***** **** FIFA. There is a google document on the US Soccer Reddit thread about tickets that has the prices for every match listed.

Link to all stadiums

For Group Stage Dallas:
  • Cat 1: $445
  • Cat 2: $335
  • Cat 3: $155
  • Cat 4: $75

Group Stage Houston:
  • Cat 1: $410
  • Cat 2: $310
  • Cat 3: $140
  • Cat 4: $60

Jeez. That sucks. But to be fair, it's not a ton different than the Qatar stadium you showed above.

The more disappointing thing for me is that Category 3 is largely fictional too (and was in Qatar). So as the other poster above mentioned, you're basically looking at Category 2 from the get go.
wangus12
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah that's my biggest frustration. I'll also say that for every other World Cup, most of the stadiums average capacity is around 40k seats. For this year, the smallest stadium except one (Toronto is 28k) is nearly 50k. Most are 70k+

There are probably more Cat 1 tickets for most of these matches then there were for total games in Qatar. Then they double the prices for those Cat 1 & Cat 2 and their making an insane profit increase.

Family of 4 in middle nosebleeds is gonna cost nearly $1500 for a group stage match between Nigeria and Iceland. Thats stupid.

And Cat 2 tickets are awful too. They are all what we'd all consider the cheap seats. Upper levels, but just on the sideline.

Thanks for the heads up on this. My FIL is at a pretty high level with them so I'm gonna try and work a deal with him. The conversion to cash value is always wonky, but I'm hoping they got a deal and they'll be cheaper than current prices.

ETA - yeah I just chatted with him and he's Executive Platinum so I'll get access via him on the 13th. Lower tiers of Platinum and Gold get the 14th, and normal members get the 15th.

I'm definitely gonna buy at least a pair this way, so I'll come back and report what the points cost is for Dallas and Houston.

If it was that profitable, then the Right To Buy market wouldn't be so cheap right now.

Maybe it's a different story for the final, but still, listing price doesn't mean selling price.

Also… I thought all resale was going to happen on an official FIFA platform??
wangus12
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I believe it is. Supposedly the only way you can resale is through FIFA. So if some dumbass buys it off Stubhub, there isn't an actual way to transfer the ticket through that platform and you just got scammed

Nevermind. FIFA did decide to allow third party resellers according to Google, but warns it might not be guaranteed to be legit, whereas from their own site, they do guarantee it (and they skim 15%).

Got lucky on the presale, bought today. 4x for a group stage game, RO16, RO32 (all Houston), and Semis (Dallas). My bank account hates me. I'm probably going to flip two tickets to the semis - they don't have to sell for anywhere near the going listed rate to basically pay for the rest of my tickets.

Edit to say that while I agree the ticket prices are absurd, you guys are kidding yourself if you think people aren't still falling over each other to buy these tickets. I saw several games sell out of their allotments when I was looking at adding them to my ticket selections. Maybe some group stage games will have less than full stadiums, but anything in the knockout rounds will likely be completely sold out because everyone is gambling on the chance of getting Brazil-Argentina or France-Germany or the like.
