Interesting as if you look at our two "recent" successful runs in the WC, both teams were heavy with starters who were either playing in Europe or who at least had significant Euro experience before returning to MLS. Depth was still heavily MLS/smaller leagues though.

Also interesting that we had a lot of defenders on those teams who weren't super high profile but just really solid, and I think that showed in the results. Spector, Cherundolo, Demerit, Bocanegra, Cameron, etc.

I'd love to agree with all of this that you are posting, but then I look at Canada and realize that they're Federation is broke, they have a foreign coach, they don't really have a home field or any super organized youth programs, yet they've found a way to beat us twice in a row and took us to extra time the match prior to that. Somehow, they can figure it out with a bunch of players playing in Europe supplemented with MLS players. Why TF can't the USA figure it out?
