Completely outclassed in every area. Another failure for US soccer. And to top it off, both teams wore white colors. I can't believe the people in charge can't even do that part correctly. If I was the referee, I wouldn't have allowed the game to start until one side changed jerseys.

That was a brutal watch

(and the first thing I thought as it started was, "Man those jerseys are close in color. At least their socks are different")

Does nobody review the kits before the match? Seems reasonable that each team would submit their kits with enough time that someone could take a look and say, "Hey, these are too close to each other to work." I know its FIFA so we should expect third world levels out of the organization but this one is just so obvious.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Watched on the outside tv. Kids asked me why the teams looked the same. I told them it was just the outside tv on a sunny day and that they probably looked way different on the inside tv. Oops.

It's not FIFA or any separate overseeing organization at all. It's a friendly. USSF hosts the event and the refs are paid by them.

According to the ESPN article I read, both teams did submit their jerseys to the refs and everyone thought it would be fine. But I'd bet a coke they only submitted pics of the front. And from the front, it would be fine because there's tons of red. The big problem is the ugly white back.

Regardless of how it went down, the buck stops with USSF for this debacle because we hosted the event.

Lot of genius takes online of "we subbed mls players in and lost" , and that just isn't reality.

Yeah. The fact that we were missing 2CBs and Adams was huge.

When all the subs were made for both sides, they had fresh legs across their offense, and we were stuck with Father Time and a dude playing out of position at CB. It is odd that we didn't bring in Trusty, but maybe they're saving his legs for the next game (given lack of depth).

Law 4

4.3
  • The two teams must wear colours that distinguish them from each other and the match officials
  • Each goalkeeper must wear colours that are distinguishable from the other players and the match officials
  • If the two goalkeepers' shirts are the same colour and neither has another shirt, the referee allows the match to be played

There isn't any way in hell a referee is not playing that match because of the kit screw up. It's not a U12 game where both teams show up in white and someone has to wear pinnies. If he cancelled the match he never gets to do another game in his life. Imagine the TV people "yeah I know you tuned in for the US v Belgium match tonight but the ref is refusing to play." And the crowd? Sure. Go home folks. Maybe we will refund the tickets. Maybe.

He could ***** and moan about the colors all day behind closed doors and his marching orders from USSF would not have changed. Go referee your game and don't say a word publicly about the kits. And try and not screw up because of them.

This is all on USSF and Nike. They screwed it up all in the name of kit promotion and sales. Which shows what the priorities in USSF really are.
