When do we start expecting the Spurs to win 65+ this year?

If the spurs stay healthy, they've basically clinched on the Lakers.

The Lakers have an absolute ridiculously difficult schedule the rest of the way. No way they come back down 7.5 games without a big Spurs injury bug.

for the love of christ, please don't jinx it

Not jinxing. I don't think any sane person would disagree. IF they stay healthy, there is no way they lose 15 games. (go 18-15 to end season)

That's basically what they'd have to do for the Lake show to catch them, with the Lakers only losing 7 with a really tough schedule.

Winning the West 1seed is a matter of staying healthy now.

So... 24-9 gets SA to 65 wins. That's not outlandish, if the Spurs are being pushed down the stretch.

If the Spurs have a 5 game lead (for 1 seed) going into, say, the last 10 days of the season, you may see Pop let off the gas and rest some of the big guns so they are fresher for the playoffs. He cares about winning the ring, not so much maximizing the regular season win total.

Tonight basically wrapped up the 1 seed barring a major meltdown in the West. Boston is still very much in it for the overall #1. I don't see Pop pushing hard for the overall though if it gets tight toward the end.

Little premature to be talking #1 seed if you ask me. Not sure that I am ready to count Dallas out of the picture as well. The picture may be a bit clearer after the rodeo trip but still far from being decided. Lakers are heading out on a 7-game road trip so Dallas may have an opportunity to gain some valuable ground, especially if they beat Boston tonight. Having said that, GoSpursGo.

I agree. Nothing is ever certain, especially in the west. If the lead grows to 10, I'll start to think differently.

There are only 33 games left. A 7.5 game lead will be pretty hard to lose unless the Spurs go .500 to end the season.

I don't think it's far fetched to say that they have #1 in the west wrapped up barring injuries.

Mavs beat Boston. If Spurs can take care of business tonight against Sacramento, we will have a 4 game lead on Boston and 7 game lead over Dallas(based on loss column.)

Spurs up 34-19 end of 1st.

I disagree that pop wouldn't try for #1 overall.... That was a huge factor for the Spurs in '05

Need to go 23-9 over the final 32 games for 65 wins. I'm pretty much expecting it.

They gained a game on Boston tonight. Need to rest up now and then go beat up on some Eastern Conference scrubs.

2-1 on the rodeo trip

last year they were 18-10 after the rodeo trip. 64% winning percentage.

if you include the 4 games they'll probably lose on the 9 game road trip, plus 64% of their remaining after (17 wins, 9 losses), games if last year's "launching" was any indication...

that puts their record at 56 wins with 7 possible wins best-case before the road trip. right now they are 34-6 for 85% win percentage. that means statistically they should lose 1 out of the 7 games.

so, based on last year's pretty average "historical rodeo playoff launch", 63 wins seems stretching it, much less 65+. so actually the smarter argument to make would be how they are NOT going to do what they "historically" do in order to get 65+ wins.

so, statistically....64 wins this year. if you round in the Spurs favor.

Simplebay proving yet again why he is head and shoulders the biggest moron on this forum. The Spurs extend their streak to 6-2 on the road trip. Such a know nothing schlub.

Hey simpletard, what do you think of the Spurs chances at going 22-9 to end the season (putting them at 65 wins)???

Good to see Matt Bonner back in the rotation after being out with an injury (bone bruise). Went 4-6 from the field and hit 2 from downtown.

3-1 on the rodeo road trip. Go Spurs Go!

They will win at least 59 games
If I had to pick an O/U, it would be 62.5

Umm, yeah, if they go about.....11-13 to close the year. Not even remotely possible.

64 wins at MINIMUM right now. (16-8 to close the year) That's assuming they rest guys and lose the last couple games (even though the Spurs bench could very well win those games)

I'm thinking they most likely end up at 66-16.

59 wins is my absolute floor. That was calculated before the New Jersey game, so it would have been 12-13 to close out the season. That assumes that every game they could conceivably lose, they do.

Next I listed all the remaining games with a percent change to win. Given that I think they will rest players, their 1-seed is pretty secure, and there are 6 pairs of back-to-backs plus several tough opponents who will be scrapping for seeding/spots left, that sum plus the wins they already had came out to 62.5 wins.

If I had tried counting all the games I believe they will be favored to win, that might have bumped the count up a game or two. The Spurs are still in the top half of the league even sleepwalking.

59 wins is too a low a floor, imo.

Pop will rest players, sure, but he's not going to lose 13 of the next 26 games, not a snowball's chance in hell. I see 63 games as a floor, and 68 as a ceiling with a really good close to the season.
Ulrich

I didn't count Memphis in San Antonio as a loss, but this is as bad a quarter and a half as the Spurs have played all season. After going up by 20, the Spurs have given up a 15 minute, 35-8 run.
Ulrich

Bonner... he's a great shooter but terrible at everything else. He has hit 4 threes and caused 3 turnovers (over the back on Manu, not ready for a pass, throw away from the wing) on this run.

Did anybody else hear Sean Elliot say that Splitter was done for the year with torn ligaments? I cant find an announcement anywhere.

Is he? Kinda sucks. Woulda been nice to have been a little deeper in the playoffs, especially considering the Spurs are due for an injury.
