KMart provides little defense and is not an elite player.

Pau is a terrific big man in a league were that is a rarity.

If Dragic is running the offense I'll feel ok. Guy is a solid off the bench guy, not a playoff starting PG

I'm kind of on the fence about this one. Scola was a great scrappy player but his stock was about as high as it was going to get so not a bad time to unload him. Martin just wan't quite the star I'd hoped for either.

That being said, Gasol is a great big man and actually has some finesse around the goal but we still need more pieces around him to be a legitimate contender. I think we can all agree that the Rockets are a few years at best from being a solid threat in the West.

Will all of you stop with this "In Morey I trust" crap. He's done nothing in the last three years to make me think we're a playoff contending team. We just got worse, we may have a top 3 post, but WE HAVE NO ONE around him. Lowry is an above average pg but there's about 10 that are better than him. Your starting five is now:
Lowry
Lee
Budinger
Morris
Gasol
...And for those who think we'll do something later come call me, the life of a rockets fan sucks. We do not have a shooter that we can rely on. We really did not get much better defensively and we made a division rival much better.

That's true Bond. Dragic has shown flashes of brilliance, but he is also very inconsistent. He'll be great some nights but he also may cost the Hornets some losses too. But if he ends up starting and running the offense, with those other weapons around him, I'll be nervous

They are still going after Nene too.

TexAgs, you forget that when Morey got here he was stuck with Yao's and TMac's huge salaries. That gave him zero flexibility to make any roster moves. Any GM would have trouble dealing with that. I think he has done a great job of building through the draft and low-profile trades.

Also, I don't think you are giving Lowry enough credit. While he may not be a top 5 PG, the man played great basketball when he took over the starting spot when we traded Brooks. I have plenty of confidence in him directing our offense.

A lineup with Lowry, Lee, Bud, Patterson/Morris and Gasol I think could be a good lineup. Certainly has playoff potential if the ball bounces in our favor

Very good point CM. We just rid ourselves of a large chunk of salary. I don't think Morey is done making moves yet.

Hypothetically, if we were able to sign Nene, we could have a lineup look something like this:

1. Lowry
2. Lee
3. Bud/Morris
4. Pau/Patterson
5. Nene

Should be interesting to see what happens

I don't expect this to be the only move though. Morey better be bringing in Nene or Gasol's brother to the tine.

I will miss Scola & Martin but I feel we get a pretty good asset in return.

the deal's dead. it's not going to happen. the NBA owners, who own the hornets, told Stern to kill it.

it would be too unfair. poooooor nba. this is one of the many reasons the hornets should be removed and the league should never own teams

Give up a guy who is going to leave anyway and receive Scola, Kmart, Odom, and Dragic. That looks like enough even without the draft picks which were apparently a part of the deal as well.

This is scandalous if the owners are able to block that trade. Wtf is going on? Can't hold the franchise hostage like this. What if MLB owners blocked Cliff Lee to Rangers trade. And why are Rockets trying to recreate the mid00s Grizzlies?

The Lakers gave up an All Star and 6th man of the year, and the hornies got a bunch of young talent, money, and picks in return. if that doesnt get it done, who exactly are the lakers allowed to acquire?

according to Hollinger, the Lakers dodged a bullet. because now they have more to get Howard with, as well as pull in enough young guard material.

IMO, i think that orlando told Lakers, you're not getting Howard without Bynum + Odom. and the lakers put a hold on it, looking for possibly okafur or West in a S&T.

i think the lakers jumped the gun here and then pulled the deal.

Do two teams really get better if the league gets worse? Houston gets more talent than it previously had, but does it really matter if LA wins the western conference for the next 6 years?

I would think that is a deal killer, too. If I am Orlando, a broken down Bynum isn't near enough to get Howard.

But Woj said Stern killed it and I tend to trust Woj over anyone in the world when it comes to NBA.
