Reckless? He clubbed a guy in the side of the head with his elbow after the play was over. That is extremely dangerous. Because the ball was dead, he can't even claim to have been trying to do anything legitimate. His latent instability has erupted again (lets not forget that he is a repeat offender), resulting in violence. They ought to throw the book at him.

What I don't get is that the expression on his face indicates that he has no idea that he just did something very wrong. You can see him feel the contact, wind up, fire his elbow into the side of Harden's head, and follow through on it... yet his expression doesn't change. The guy is out of his mind.

I hope they suspend him for playoffs and 2013 season. That's extreme to some people. But I'm tired of idiots running and ruining the NBA.

My prediction is that he is done for the season. No more regular season. No playoffs whatsoever.

If they suspend him for less than 10 games it's a travesty.

Great idea. It wouldn't bother me a bit if they kicked him out of the league either. He has attacked fans, players, and is a danger to everybody around him. He has been suspended and fined multiple times. Nothing has sunk in.

I've been a Maverick fan since inaugural season. I had no problem with NBA kicking Roy Tarpley out of the league.

There is a reason why something like that would only ever happen to Ron Artest and not any other player in the NBA. That reason is why Ron Artest should get such a long suspension.

It is pretty clear that he is going to flip out and start swinging every once in a while and probably can't control himself during those episodes. He's a danger to players and fans. From that perspective, it makes a lot of sense to kick him out of the league. Are there any people left who legitimately think he can control himself?

Repeat offender, dead ball, unprovoked assault, and very dangerous move. Even ignoring that it's Artest, anything less than the rest of the season is a joke, and if the Lakers get bounced early he should miss some games next year, too.

No telling what the league will hand out though.

If it was just your average NBA player (no prior history), I'd say the next 5 games.

Because it's Artest, I think 10 games minimum

James Harden does have a concussion. He will travel back to to OKC with the team, but his status for the final two games is uncertain.

The more I think about it the more I think he should be made an example of. He knew someone was there, he also knew it wasn't his team mate, doubt he would have done that had it been a team mate. So that mean it was premeditated. Based on previous situations I would be OK with him being out 20 games if not longer.

I'm not defending him at all. I'm a Lakers fan, and I've got a soft soft spot for RonRon because he sealed that Championship, tries to do the right thing in the community, and clearly needs his meds.

I'm just pointing out that he isn't "crazy" like a lot of pro athletes. He is actually crazy. When Bynum pulls a cheap shot, it's because he is being a petulant D-bag. Guys like Laimbeer, Rambis, or Rodman were dirty with a purpose. Ron has an IQ of 60, an self control problem, and a game built on physicality. I don't think there was anything premeditated about the elbow, because I don't think Ron's brain has that much contact with his body.

Your logic is terrible. Just because he (hopefully?) would not have elbowed a teammate, that does not mean that elbowing Harden was premeditated. Was it intentional? No doubt, but that does not mean premeditated.

I am not going to pretend I can read someones intentions from their facial expressions, but it doesn't look like he was really thinking about it as he did it. It looked more like a split second reaction, and not something he was consciously thinking about. To me, that is more dangerous than if it had been premeditated. Its like having a Chow that violently attacks anything that surprises it. You can't train it out of him, it is just instinct, and there is no way to correct it. You just have to contain the dog, or put it down.

I don't think suspending him teaches him a lesson, just like I don't think jailing Charles Manson is teaching him a lesson about not killing people. But jail is a pretty good place to have Manson.

Because he has a problem, it's not just about punishing him. It's about protecting players and fans. If you think he is going to keep doing things like this, can you keep giving him chances to do it again? This time he gave someone a concussion, which is bad. What if he does something worse next time?

He probably needs to have some sort of psychological evaluation. Based on that, the league can decide whether to punish (suspension) or quarantine (expulsion) him.

This has been done many times. Like when he pled guilty to beating his wife. NBA and the court both required mental evaluation. He was also suspended 7 games for that one.

I think he should be kicked out of the league, but I thought that prior to this incident.

Are you confusing premeditated with intentional? It was absolutely intentional but it wasn't premeditated. After the dunk he runs up the court celebrating, NOT heading towards Harden or anyone. It is Harden who goes in the direction of Artest.
