Yeah the fact that I'm stronger than durant at 5'10 160 is pretty sad. That said, WTF cares when you were born with the golden touch

Go play pickup basketball sometime. Chances are the skinny dude who has a quick first step, good handles, nice shooting touch, and has played regularly for years is a halfway decent player, regardless of how much he benches. I'd say lower-body strength is more important in basketball, especially if you're a post player or your game relies on explosiveness.

Durant's unimpressive bench press got overblown, just like it's getting overblown in this thread.

While I think his strength will hinder his long term career in the NBA... right now he is one of the best scorers I've ever seen...

Reggie Miller being unable to bench press a wet blanket didn't seem to hinder him from becoming a top 15 scorer in NBA history.

Guys; I gave him a shot at being the GOAT! Read my posts. I am not critical of his lack of strength when talking about his basketball ability at all. The guy is amazing.

However; it was probably the main reason he was not picked #1 overall and it is pretty amazing that a soon to be professional athlete could not bench 85% of his weight. Can you name another guy who could not do that?

There have been many in the past that skipped it. He did not, he tried and failed. That is funny. If you don't find humor in it, do get mad at me.

That is just an excuse weak tall people give and it is way over stated.
Most of your strongest men in the world are big guys (6'3"-6-7"), long arms and can bench well above 500. You don't see many 5'4" guys winning bench competitions when competing against all sizes.

Dwight Howard does over 400lbs. I believe Kevin Willis did well over 400 (I know he has short arms but his wingspan is still 6'10 or so). That is more about the individual than the height/ length of arms.

Unless the NBA implements a bench-press competition at the end of the 2nd overtime to determine the winner, this is a pretty pointless discussion. Weak/skinny guys can still be bada$$ basketball players. These guys aren't in the Strongman competition or signing up to play linebacker in the NFL. Who cares how much Durant can bench if he keeps winning scoring titles and leading his team deep in the playoffs...

This is one of the funnier things I have read on this site in awhile. The reason Durant didn't go #1 was because Greg Oden had the potential to be a dominant big man. It's not often that big men come on the scene with as much upside and potential as Oden did when he was drafted. Obviously he didn't pan out, but Durant didn't fall to #2 because he couldn't bench his weight. You're making this way too big an issue. Stop reaching for nonsense

As far as it effecting(?) his draft; I believe that was the only negative on him. He was POY that year and it was a hard choice for the blazers. Had he done 185 5 times, I think it would have been even harder for them.
