It was in the Spring of 99.

This all started with this:

I'd like to see what you could have done with his build.

and went from there.

He did this same crap on the Jeremy Lin thread too

Me & most everybody else on the thread: wow, look at Lin go! He went undrafted and was getting no minutes. Now, appearing from out of nowhere, he's driving the lane like he's been in the NBA for years and getting to the rim with ease.

BBDP: that's not athleticism!! I could make that dunk! Watch my video! See!?
(link to sheety video showing a fairly tall guy jogging to right under the hoop and then dunking a junior ball)

Everybody else: uhhh...

Look man, your glory days are over. Nobody cares about how you were the Rec league king. We don't care about (or believe) your insinuations that if you'd just gotten your shot, you'd be making millions in the NBA.

With all due respect, your dunk is freaking terrible. It displays average athletic ability for a 6'3 or 6'4 guy. That is, a jogging dunk just isn't that difficult for somebody who's in that height range.

I guess I should congratulate you for staying active and for staving off obesity, which are two things that would prevent a lot of those men over 30 from being able to dunk. But that's really it. Other than that, it's amazingly unimpressive. It'd be like me talking **** about an NFL player's strength and then uploading a video of myself doing 40-50 pushups to show how athletic I am.

Dunking with a junior ball, GTFO here, weak sauce. I bench 300+ with 40+ vertical you scrub.

At

My point in that thread was that anyone that is 6'3" and in any kind of shape should be able to dunk..... See video. Why does it surprise you when a 6'3" NBA guard can dunk better. My point was that Relatively speaking, that is not that big of a deal. Most of the rest of you thought Lin was super athletic. Relatively to the nba, I did not. Someone later brought up some speed numbers that were impressive......

You suggested that if I could do what I claimed, I should have played d1 ball and I laughed..... Knowing that you don't know jack about D1 ball and what it takes to make it. There is a lot more to playing competitive ball than jumping high.

The reason I posted that vid in this thread is so the guy/girl questioning my height could see for themselves.
Ps
It's the Internet and you guys take it way to seriously.

That is just an excuse weak tall people give and it is way over stated.
Most of your strongest men in the world are big guys (6'3"-6-7"), long arms and can bench well above 500. You don't see many 5'4" guys winning bench competitions when competing against all sizes.

quote:
Avery Johnson could out bench David Robinson.

And?
Dwight Howard does over 400lbs. I believe Kevin Willis did well over 400 (I know he has short arms but his wingspan is still 6'10 or so). That is more about the individual than the height/ length of arms.

Yeah just look at the strongman competition, many of those guys are giants. They range in height from 6'3" to 6'10" and are just enormous human beings.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbWYt1ef9bw&feature=youtu.be

Here is the current world record squat of 445 kg. His legs are bigger than my waist. He is about 6'3" and 360 lbs.

The bigger you are, the stronger you should be. The fact that Durant cannot bench 185 is damn pathetic.

It doesn't take away from his basketball skills, but it does prove he's not willing to do everything possible because Strength is required to be a good defender to keep guys from posting up in you.

It really is easier to bench if you have shorter arms. Being taller doesn't mean you should be stronger. I have no idea where some of you come up with this ****.

Durants bench numbers are probably an indication he spends more time in the basketball gym than the weight room. Its made him the best offensive player in the league three years running...

Some Aggies still seem very passionate about bench press numbers.

Awesome cap to the thread that a guy is posting a video of himself dunking not unlike the WNBAers do.

Then why are there guys who are 6'10" who can bench a truck? They don't have short arms, not even close. Shaq had very long arms, and he was insanely strong.

Durant will never be an elite defender without strength. He can't stop anyone who has any kind of strength because they will just post him up and back him down. He can be the best offensive player in the game, but he will never be the full package if he doesn't start putting in the effort in the weight room. It's no surprise that the best defenders tend to be the hardest workers.

His ceiling is incredibly high because he has guard like agility at 6'10" but he will never even come close to Jordan or Kobe if he doesn't start putting in the effort in the little things that improve you as a player.

You seem to be a good sport so I'll let this all slide as long as you admit what we both know:

'Weak' Kevin Durant would probably back you right down and throw a monster dunk down and not break a sweat.

Your boyfriend is one of the greatest players in the game with a shot of being the GOAT, getting dunked on by him would be worth bragging about.... But I would bet on Britney in a fight.

Jordan was 28 before he won his first title. Durant is three years out from the START of his prime. He's doing something right.

Man... sometimes you gotta just admit you are wrong dude. I looked up the Jeremy Lin thread mentioned in this thread and your debating in that thread was just as ridiculous. That said, I wanted to bring back this hilarious quote:

quote:
Yes, I'm sure you could juke John Wall, explode past him toward the lane, leap from the left edge of the paint (about 55-60% of the way to the freethrow line from the basket), twist in midair, and throw down a dunk into the right side of the basket before any of the other NBA players on the court could move to contest the shot.

Unless you have a truly putrid shot, if you have enough athleticism to do that, you can get in the D-league at minimum and don't have to be playing pickup ball in a church league. So you had 1) a putrid shot, 2) a terrible agent, 3) different career ambitions, or 4) are exaggerating your ass off.

My money is on 4.

This is basically what I was saying. Just not worded as well. I was simply saying that it's not sad for someone of Durants body structure and workout routine to have benched that. It was almost to be expected just looking at him. Either way, I'm sure he couldn't care less about what he benches right now, and neither should anyone else.

Gander, height isn't everything. None of those guys have anywhere close to the same physical structure as Durant. Just because they are all tall doesn't mean anything. And just because you name a couple of taller guys who are strong doesn't mean anything either.
