When Morey got here, we had an old, unathletic team that was saddled with the massive contracts of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady that put us in salary cap and mediocrity hell.
He's flipped that into potentially the youngest team to make the NBA playoffs since the NBA merger.
The reason he's not sitting on this roster or any roster before this is because we did not have a championship roster. If you are not continuously striving for a championship, then you are not doing your job. He has said, and it is known, you need multiple elite super stars in order to win an NBA championship. This last offseason, he finally turned a few quarters into a dollar when he landed James Harden, a legitimate top 10 player in the league and arguably the best shooting guard in the league right now.
This upcoming off-season, he is positioning himself to be one of the few teams with the cap space to sign a max player (Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, or someone else).
That is to go along with Omer Asik, who has to be one of the best values at center in the league, with 11 points, 12 rebounds per game at $8MM per year. Don't look now, but Jeremy Lin has averaged 14 points, 6 assists, 2 turnovers, and 46% behind the arc in the last 5 games and has been turning it on big time. Chandler Parsons is one of the best 2nd round draft picks in recent years and combined with Carlos Delfino, we are actually getting top-half play out of the SF position.
Morey is doing exactly what he should be doing. Making the roster younger, more athletic, and keeping the team flexible and collect the assets to acquire a second super star in order to build a championship roster.
