so far, thomas robinson has pretty much done zilch. The guy can't even outplay craig smith?? to start?

Agreed but the Rockets have been upfront since the trade that this trade was not about this year and may even hurt this year. This trade was about trying to build a future championship team. Robinson has great athleticism, an explosive first step, and is supposedly a very hard worker. He does play with a lot of energy. McHale has said he needs a tremendous amount of work in the offseason. A LOT. He doesn't appear to be a very good shooter as most of his points are putbacks. My question is why is he not more developed for a guy with his talent and supposed work ethic?

In 2-3 years this could turn out to be a great trade, depending entirely on the development of a kid with a lot of talent. Seems like a good gamble to me.

I was going to say that part of the reason he's not developed is that he wasn't even born until 1991, but that makes him 22 years old and he spent 3 years at KU.

More generally speaking, I don't understand how these talented guys come in so raw even if they didn't have good coaching growing up. It's not hard to turn on a game and watch how Kobe shoots or Duncan executes a post move, then go to the gym and work on that thing until you've got it down. I picked those guys on purpose because that's exactly how they taught themselves to play. Neither is the best athlete at his position (depending on exactly how you define athletic), but both were supremely skilled from day one because of their hard work even though Kobe was a high schooler and Duncan didn't start playing ball until high school.

I think that the roster churn that Morey does could be problematic for any coach.

Of all the Rockets that played in their last game, I don't think any were on the team 2 years ago.

I have very little doubt that at the current rate that Morey churns a team, at least half of this team will be somewhere else within 20 months.

Maybe not. At some point, you have to develop your players.

He understands you need superstars to win championships in the NBA. Lowry? No. Martin? Hell no. Scola? Miss. That roster was never going anywhere in the playoffs. He turned that into a 5-6 year younger and way more talented team with one superstar who can draw another one in the offseason. We weren't going to draw a star in FA with our last roster.

Why the hell would he break up a team that averages 23 years old and is already in the playoffs? He wouldn't.

PatPat and Morris were traded for two reasons. The first is to give some of the young PF's a chance to see if any of them might hit and two to get a trade piece (i.e. Robinson) for this summer.
