Post thoughts opinions, whatever on games you're watching for teams who don't have their own threads.

First TNT game on right now. Derrick Rose is back against Lebron. Bulls up 7-2.

I hate these super teams!
The collection of super stars known as the sixers just took down the heat!

Break up the sixers, Stern!

The Cavs looked good tonight in beating yet another superteam in Brooklyn.

I knew I'd regret going to sleep during the Clippers/Warriors game. Sounds freaking nuts. CP3 going 42-15, Curry making 9 threes, 3 alley-oops in 32 seconds for Griffin... aaaaaah

Kobe getting paid $24 million today in a lump sum for 80% of this year's contract.

After taxes that $24 million becomes $11 million.

Brooklyn would have been freaking amazing if they had all these guys 5 years ago.

Brooklyn has the payroll of a super team and a half.

Maybe I should ask this on the Business and Investing board, but when an athlete is injured, and still get paid, do they have to pay any of the jock taxes in other states?

Thunder getting owned tonight. Down 28 end 3rd.

I think he still had to pay the jock tax based on the article I read.

http://m.espn.go.com/general/story?storyId=9911541&city=losangeles&src=desktop

quote:

Bryant's total take home of the $24.3 million check is subject to heavy taxes, which could total as much as 55 percent of his salary. That would reduce his take-home pay to closer to $11 million, according to Robert Raiola, a certified public accountant who heads up the sports and entertainment group at FMRTL in Cranford, N.J.

In his tax bracket, Bryant is subject to paying a federal tax at the top rate of 39.6 percent, which would mean $9.6 million will be withheld by Uncle Sam. As a California resident, he's subject to paying an additional 13.3 percent, or $3.2 million, in state taxes. California has the highest state income tax in the United States. The Medicare tax and surcharge would reduce his total take to about $10.9 million, Raiola said.

Bryant will pay so-called "jock taxes" to states in which he plays on the road. But those payments will be credited toward his California income tax.

Bryant's salary this season is the second-largest salary in NBA history, behind the $33.1 million Michael Jordan made in 1997-98.

Sixers finally come back down to earth. And Boston should be the ones really thinking about tanking.

i wonder how the conversation went when the celtics hired brad stevens.

"look, kid, we need a first time coach that we don't have to pay out the nose for. you have no nba experience, and will be paid as such. also, i'm gutting your entire lineup, and your best player is a headcase with a reconstructed knee. have a great first season!"

Man if Doc can get the Clips to play defense, I think they could be legitimate favorites in the west. Their offense is ridiculous.

One big difference in the rebuilding efforts for Boston and Philly is that Boston still has a top 10 payroll this year ($71.6 mil) and over $42 mil tied up into next season already.

Philly is at $45 mil and $15 or so.

If Brown can keep that team at just above .500 I think he should be an automatic COTY candidate.

In other news, the #1 pick in the NBA draft is 0-15 from the field to begin the season.

Bennett doesn't have to be a great player. He just can't be a bust. To me his benchmark is Glen Robinson. If THAT undersized scoring forward (and #1 overall pick) carved out a nice career, Bennett can do the same. But it looks like he's the worst one since Bargnani.

Matt Barnes throws out the N-word, but because he ended it with an A, instead of an -er, it doesn't seem to be much of an issue.

But Im DONE standing up for these n---as! All this s--- does is cost me money.

From my calculations, the Southwest division is 33-16.

On Stein's power rankings, they have 4 teams in top 12, and all 5 in top 15.

On the RPI index, 4 teams are in top 11.
http://espn.go.com/nba/stats/rpi

But this seems pretty much business as usual.

Conversely, the Atlantic Division is abysmal. Toronto is 5-7 and winning the division. Philly is 5-8, Celtics are 4-9, with the Knicks and Nets at 3-8.

Any predictions on the next Nets coach, and if Kidd makes it to 2014?

My guess is that George Karl takes over some time early in 2014.

Lionel Hollins would be my 2nd guess, followed by Nate McMillan, although I'm not sure he could get out of his contract with the Pacers. I kinda doubt he could.

One of the Van Gundys? Honestly the way the Russiam rolls, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't moneywhip Spolstra, Phil Jackson, or Rick Carlisle
