Incoming Rockets fans to tell you how dumb you are to put Duncan first.

What do you think? Duncan vs Hakeem?

Duncan. Slight bias being from SA myself but I really think he's the best in TX.

TP will likely be on that list as well by his career's end.

Ya i agree with this

For what they did in Texas, for their entire career, or just for how talented they are/were?

This debate again?

Do a search. It's been discussed frequently on here.

And Dream is better.

I did search it. Read through the whole thread. And all it was was a bunch of imbeciles insulting each other but providing zero actual basis for why they believed what they did.

Houston fans logic: Hakeem could beat Duncan in a game of one on one, therefore he was a greater player...

If they play the same position, why wouldn't you apply this logic?

If they played in their primes, Vince Carter would beat Paul Pierce in one on one.

But who was the greater player?

Greatest player should mean a combination of their skills and accomplishments. Not only what they were able to do during their peak.

NBA basketball is not played one on one. Why would a one on one game be the end-all for the greatness of an NBA player?

Odd one: Detlef Schrempf

*Probably not top 10 though

1. No, Vince would not beat Pierce one-on-one in their primes.

2. I don't actually believe a player's one-on-one ability is the determining factor for one's place over the other. It was just conjecture.

3. I also don't think it's a pure measure between that and accomplishments. I've always said that players should be measured against other players in their era. Duncan came in when Hakeem was going out. So many other factors go into a player's career accomplishments (health, coaching, competition, teammates, etc.)

4. I get that it's fun to compare players. It's a very natural thing to do. I still think Hakeem was a better player than Duncan taking into account peaks and career accomplishments. Just like I think Shaq is a better player than Duncan. Duncan had the better career than both and was an elite talent, I just don't think he's a better player.

5. SMH at getting drawn into another one of these arguments.

Argue with what you put in point 4 then. Thats the kind of stuff that should be the only part of this argument.

Also Carter not being able to beat Pierce one on one is the same as you saying Hakeem could beat Duncan one on one...your opinion. Don't use it as an argument

Duncan/Hakeem would be a really, really interesting matchup. They both have crazy coordination/anticipation, but Duncan plays really smart with a sort of under-the-radar athleticism*, while Hakeem was the more athletic and nimble of the two. I didn't watch Hakeem enough to form a strong opinion of who would actually win a matchup (Hakeem's peak was 15-20 years ago, so a lot of the people around here haven't seen him game in and game out either), but it would sure be fun to watch the two of them go at it in their primes.

*He's still throwing it down over guys like Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol.

Uh, no it's not. Pierce and Carter have been playing with/against each other since McDonald's. They play the same position. Pierce is a stronger player. Better rebounder. Better post player. Better clutch player. Tougher competitor. And that's just for one-on-one analysis. Don't even have to go in-depth about their careers.

Duncan and Hakeem are harder to compare because like I said, different eras. I'm judging those two by how they fared against their respective eras/competition. They both obviously did well. I just think Hakeem (not the Rockets) outplayed his competition by a margin that is greater than Duncan (not the Spurs) did. The same goes fro Shaq.

I mean all three would fall in the range of 5-10 for the greatest NBA players ever, so I don't see what the big deal is. But then again this is Texags Basketball Other.

I would bet Allen Iverson would beat Magic Johnson in 1-on-1. Who would you rather built a team around?

Nobody is arguing that Duncan's team wasn't better. That's obvious.

Give Hakeem the Spurs roster, and you would see the same result (if not more)
