LOL, Hakeem played in an era where there were a greater number of good to great big men.

Now the focus is on wings and guards.

I mean.. think of this.. the best center in the league is Dwight Howard (who has no offensive game, is obviously a great rebounder and defender).. get your head around that.

He wouldn't be in the top 5 in Hakeem's prime (Hakeem, D Robinson, P. Ewing, Shaq come to mind off of the top of my head).

Yes, the game has evolved into a less center-centric league. To say Duncan is better than Hakeem because he has more rings (better supporting cast) and because there are fewer dominant big men is laughable.

But, hey, do whatever makes you feel good.

Hakeem could do things that no other big man EVER could do. Guard in a center's body. And many forget his game evolved. When he first came into the league, he was all about the power game. He developed the footwork, the moves, etc.

Does anyone remember what Hakeem did to David Robinson in the '95 Western Conference Finals? If you've ever watched that, there's no question that Hakeem is EASILY better than Duncan. No disrespect to TD, but Hakeem was Houston's team. Without him, they were not even a playoff team. I mean, comeon, Kenny Smith and Vernon Maxwell as your guards? TD has had TP, Manu, etc. etc. Easily a better supporting cast.

Hakeem has meant more his team than TD has ever meant to SA.

I did not remember that. It never gets brought up, so I appreciate the reminder.

This makes absolutely no sense.

If it wasn't for Robinson then Duncan, Los Spurs would be located somewhere else. Pretty meaningful for the franchise.

Who do current players go to work out with in the off-season (even LBJ) to get better footwork, become better players, etc...

Oh yeah, I forgot, it's Hakeem.

That settles it. The retired guy works out with the current players. The guy still in the NBA isn't helping out his opponents in the off season learn how to shoot a bank shot so he must not be as good.

Again, Houston homers never disappoint.

Duncan didn't come into the league two years ago. He played his prime against Dirk in his prime, Garnett in his prime, Webber in his prime. And he was clearly the best forward of all of them. Don't act like Duncan played against inferior competition. That's absolutely not the case.

I'm not saying he was better than Hakeem, but Duncan played against just as many great players at his position as Hakeem did.

Thank you. Hysterical. If you want to play that way, Dwight went to Hakeem in the off season. Look how much good that did him...

Everyone asks Hakeem to tutor them not Wilt. That should tell you something. And that Something is Hakeem is the greatest ever. Didn't you see him play in the 95 playoffs! Done.

Dwight is garbage tho. Hakeem, Kareem, Ewing, McHale - he couldn't retain any of what they taught him.

Dwight would be a 32/13 guy if he would let Rick Barry teach him FTs.

In all seriousness, this was nearly my top 5. Waffled back and forth between Nash and Parker.

Tim Duncan is one of the all-time greats, but c'mon man. Watch some old video of Hakeem playing defense (blocks and steals), his low post moves, his passing. Hakeem was the better player. Of course Timmy D does have more accomplishments but basketball is a team game.

Oh yeah, I forgot, it's Hakeem.

Roy Hibbert works with Duncan in the offseason. Al Jefferson patterned his offensive game after Duncan. If you don't think half the NBA is going to be beating down Tim Duncan's door the day he retires, you're crazy.

Hakeem's peak > Duncan's peak

Duncan has been a dominant player longer than Hakeem was, though. Duncan has had the better career. Hakeem is the more talented player
JCoolAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with that but I think the peaks are probably closer than you think.

The fact that we have had this debate like 5 times in the past year is proof that the players are very close
