I don't think they'll be able to find him. He will be off the grid.

Duncan's peak in the 03 playoffs was pretty crazy. 24/17/5/5 average capped off with 21/20/10/8 to clinch the title. And that Duncan team wasn't as good as either Rockets title team.

After his career, Tim is going to disappear. He's going to swim in the ocean on an island and he'll only come back long enough for HoF ceremonies or important events like that.

They'll probably be beating down his door in the Virgin Islands asking for swimming lessons

If I had to pick between Duncan and Hakeem to build a team around that would last for 10 years, I would take Duncan. If I had to pick between the two at their absolute best and I had that player for just one season, I would take Hakeem. 94-95 Hakeem was better than Duncan at any point in his career.

Better than Dirk.

Better than Duncan.

If we are going by whole careers than then Dirk is definitely better than Tim Duncan. If we are going by their primes then there could be some debate

I thought the Nowitzki fans gave up on this one a long time ago, and that's a terrible attempt at an argument. If you look at their achievements, Duncan has racked up a LOT more awards.

Nowitzki
1 MVP
1 Finals MVP
11 all-star games
12 all-NBA nods (4 first team)
0 all-NBA defense (0 first team)
Regular season: 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, .9 bpg, and .9 spg
Playoffs: 27 ppg, 10 rpg, 2.6 apg, .9 bpg, 1.1 spg
1 Ring

Duncan
2 MVPs
3 Finals MVPs
14 all-star games
14 all-NBA nods (10 first team)
14 all-NBA defense (8 first team)
Regular season: 20 points, 11 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.2 bpg, and .7 spg
Playoffs: 22 ppg, 12 rpg, 3.2 apg, 2.4 bpg, .7 spg
4 Rings

The only way you could try to argue that Nowitzki is better is to go for the "higher peak" argument with the 2011 title run where Nowitzki put up 28 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and .6 blocks. If you do that though, Duncan comes back with either the 2003 title run (25-15-5.3 with 3.3 blocks) or the 2002 playoffs where Duncan went home without a ring but posted 28 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4.3 blocks.

Of course, all it takes to completely shut down this argument is to point out that basketball is played on both ends of the court. Nowitzki did manage about 3-5 more ppg, but he spent most of his career as a defensive liability and has never been more than average on defense; as a result, he never made an all-defensive team. Meanwhile, Duncan just landed his 14th appearance on the all-defensive team. There would have to be an immense disparity in their offensive performance to match that difference on defense, and 3-5 points just isn't enough.

Agree that Duncan > Dirk but I like that you posted the stats that matter: playoffs. People seem to forget Dirk averages 10+ rpg in the playoffs

Im a huge mavs fan and cant stand the spurs...that being said

Duncan>Dirk

It's basically impossible to argue any other way. If things went differently in 2003 and 2006 then it might be a different conversation but they didn't and it is what it is.

You should be banned from this board for this opinion. I love dirk. I think he's a top 25 ever. He's not in the same class as Duncan. Career or peak. Sorry

Well, from a completely unbiased perspective, I'm going to have to go with Duncan above Hakeem... But let's be honest Spurs and Rockets fans (if we can agree on anything)... We are much better than the German and his wanna be Yankee Country team up north.

My top 10:
1) Duncan
2) Hakeem
3) Moses
4) Barkley
5) The Admiral
6) The German
7) Ice
8) Clyde
9) Kidd
10) Nash (since his best years were in AZ)
11) Big Shot Rob

Wow, I like how one guy (possibly a troll) posts one throwaway line about dirk being the best, and we get people coming to the rescue. I hope y'all don't think everyone in Dallas believes DIrk's better than Duncan. Please rest easy, friends.
